Description

WELCOME!!

We focus on the period between 1803 to 1827, when the Fort was officially abandoned--the War of 1812; how people lived on the frontier; how national policies affected them; what they wore, what they ate, what they believed, how they survived--the entirety of the Louisiana Territory, not just Fort Osage.

Our goal is to raise standards, foster research, share information about this period of our country's history and particularly about the system of forts along the frontiers.

Look here for information on events, volunteer opportunities, training and discussions concerning Fort Osage National Historic Site.

This is NOT the place to discuss modern politics, whether national, regional, or local. Our cardinal rules is that members will treat one another with civility--and it works!

Fort Osage is located in Sibley, MO, a few miles north of Buckner and ten miles east of Independence (take US Highway 24). Operating under the auspices of Jackson County, Missouri, Parks and Recreation, and administered by Heritage Museums and Programs Division, it is a premier example of a reconstructed frontier fort. Later a stop on the Santa Fe Trail, it has been recognized by many organizations that preserve the history of the area, for its connection to the Expedition of Discovery of William Clark and Meriwether Lewis, its years of operation as a trade house and military presence, its connections with the early French traders and the Osage peoples, and its importance to the Santa Fe Trail itself.

Interpreters, volunteers, historians, genealogists, museum specialists, educators, writers, archaeologists, botanists, earth scientists, anthropologists and those involved in related sciences--all are most welcome to join us.

Check our schedule and our files and photos sections, and feel free to ask questions--and better yet, visit and join us!
