Florida No Nukes is for the purpose of discussion, organizing and actions to stop the building of new nuclear power plants and the relicensing of aged plants here in Florida!
We have 5 nuclear reactors already in existence in Florida.
1 at Crystal River, 2 at Port St. Lucie, and 2 at Turkey Point.
Progress Energy plans to file for the relicensing of Crystal River in 2009, and has filed with the Florida PSC to build 2 new reactors in southern Levy County on environmentally sensitive wetlands with transmission lines proposed throughout the state in neighborhoods and on environmentally sensitive state lands.
FP&L has filed with the PSC to build 2 new reactors at Turkey Point.
We must work hard to stop this process, and push for more truly renewable energy resources and funding for such.
We must work toward decentralizing the energy grid, instead of allowing Big Energy corporations like Progress Energy and FP&L to be paid with billions in tax subsidies and rate hikes out of our pockets to essentially enslave us within their centralized grid that is fast becoming extremely unaffordable for the working family.
