I have a cat that would love you. He specializes in loving people. Any
people. If you ever make it to Toronto, Ontario, Canada, you can stop by and
test the theory!

My mother went to Greece again this summer and sent me a postcard from
Patmos. There is a town there called Skala. I didn't know this, but it's an odd
coincidence, since I based The Three Lands geography on that area.

My dog has recently taken to chewing on the legs of my computer chair while
I'm using it. Which wouldn't be a real problem if she was, say, a poodle. But
a pit bull...

Just had to delurk for a moment to mention something interesting about name
coincidences. Lynn, did you know that there is a town in Italy named Rimini?
It's about level with Florence, but on the east coast. In italian the "i" is
pronounced like a long "e", so phoenetically it would sound somewhat like
Rhiminee (or how an Italian would say Rhiminee). You were really channeling
the mediterranean. ;)

Actually, that one was intentional. Somewhere (Browning poem title or
painting?) I picked up the name Francesca di Rimini. I really liked the sound
of it and absconded with it later.

Oh hurray - I'm always doing that. Had a student
named Terilyn -- snagged it! And a customer at the
store named Raphaelian -- snagged that too

My stories, however, are not published, so they may
never know.

That is one of the joys of my job; I get to hear lots and lots of
different names. I have a little list of names I like...Jashara,
Sylina, Jailawn...I won't give up the others. They are for my use,
if I can only get off my derriere and write something.

the scary thing is, I'm sure the parents weren't being mean. They
actually thought that was a beautiful name.

PS. My parents almost named me Angelique, but decided on the shorter

If I had been a boy, my mom was going to name me Bernard. And she
even had a preferred pronouncation... Ber-nerd. *shudder*

So instead she used Bernadette for my baptismal name.

*is very glad her name is Sherene and that Bernadette appears no

No, they're just French.

Speaking of "Dark Shadows" which leads me to "Dracula"....Anybody
remember the PBS broadcast from 20-25 odd years ago of Dracula with
Louis Jourdan in the title role? Yeah, I know, that's a looong time
ago. I'm probably the only one who remembers it. I was 9 or 10 at
the time and Louis was my first crush. I didn't recognize it as
such. I was too young to really identify the strange sensation I was
feeling everytime I looked at him. I had a small postage stamp size
black and white picture of him I cut out of TV Guide hanging on my
wall and had strange sensual dreams about him. It wasn't until
several years later that I realized what my feelings actually were.
I've been in love with vampires--particularly ones named Louis ;)--
ever since. Uh, I know this is way off topic, but it really is such
a fond memory of mine...

Oh yes - I remember it. Very cool. Anyone else
remember "The Fearless Vampire Hunters?" HAHAHAHA --
weird movie.

Andrea -- who was always to be called Andrea..they
didn't have a boys name picked out...which would be OK
in Italy, but in the states....ouch

Just felt like sharing ;-)

After the grade-school class comes back inside, the teacher asks Alice,
"What did you do at recess?"

Alice says, "I played in the sandbox."

"That's nice," the teacher says. "If you can go to the blackboard and
write sand correctly, I'll give you a fresh-baked cookie." Alice does,
and she gets a cookie. Then the teacher asks Billy what he did at
recess.

Billy says, "I played in the sandbox with Alice."

The teacher says, "Good. If you can write box on the blackboard, I'll
give you a fresh-baked cookie." Billy writes the word, and he gets a
cookie. The teacher then asks Mustafa Abdul what he did at recess. "I
tried to play with Alice and Billy," Mustafa answers, "but they threw
rocks at me."

"They threw rocks at you? That sounds like blatant racial
discrimination!" the teacher says. "If you can go to the blackboard and
write blatant racial discrimination, I'll give you a fresh-baked
cookie."

i'm noting eh...nothing. I guess that worries me.
In books some authors use this kinda totally silly situation,
when the protagonists walk e.g. through a forest and suddenly they
realize that all birds had gone silent and there's no
other noice...usually that's the prelude to some major
disaster....hm...hopefully there's no conection to the list *grin*

Silence. yes... umm....

Ok... Well I re-read Mark Anthony's Blood of Mystery, gnashes teeth... I
was really enjoying it until it sort of tailed off a bit near the end, and as
Beltan and Travis actually had a fleeting kiss I'll forgive him the bit where
he made Beltan think Vani was Travis, and Vani think Beltan was Travis.
Arrrghh. I bet she's pregnant.

Then I started finally on Restoration, oh joy.... it was wonderful having
Aleksander back, made me realise quite how much I missed him in book 2. It's
funny really, but out of Seyonne and Aleksander, Aleksander is the one who
grabbed me the most, I really liked Seyonne, but in first person the books
were all from his pov so Aleksander was the one with they mystery, the one
you wanted to know more about if that makes sense.

Don't worry if I'm unusually quiet... I'm off beta testing on SimsOnline...
I know, hard work, but someone has to do it <g>.

Helen

It makes perfect sense to me. I had a hard time
finding a voice for my protagonist only to discover
that HE was the mysterious one and someone else needed
to speak. Whew, that helped.

My excuse is that I have been so busy helping train new people at
