Description

The Flamin' Groovies (approx. '65 - '87, in various line-ups) were just about the grooviest band ever. Somehow the Groovies were able to digest the best stuff (i.e. in their late-'70s heyday, Beatles, Stones, Byrds, etc.) and then put out brand-spanking-new absolutely fantastic tunes -- familiar-sounding, yet totally unique. A few could be thought of as "songs the Beatles never wrote". In some cases, the Groovies actually seem to have outpainted the masters.

With one of the most brilliant guitar sounds ever put on record, the Groovies are some of "the ones that got away". Although critically acclaimed, they never got the promotion and sales they deserved, though they garnered quite a following in Europe. Go out right now (or click somewhere) and buy "Groovies Greatest Grooves" -- (Warner)Sire 9 25948-2 -- you will not be sorry!

The Flamin' Groovies list is for discussion of the Flamin' Groovies (duh!) and their music, and for Groovies fans to talk about other cool music they like too. Friends of Cyril and Roy and Chris keep us posted on their latest projects and gigs; we've had news of other Groovies, and we even have one or two of them on the list, lurking about.

Just click to join, and if you're a non-spamming human (as opposed to a spambot), you'll be approved.

Thanks!
