Thankyou for your call in regards to the Gala Day Parade taking place on 21 November.
There will be temporary changed traffic conditions in place for the parade which has been detailed below.
EVENT DETAILS
On Saturday 21 November 2009, the parade will assemble on Eastern Park Circuit, off Garden Street, in Eastern Park. At 11.00am the parade proceeds west along the length of Malop Street to the Moorabool Street intersection, turns right into Moorabool Street and concludes at the intersection of Eastern Beach Road and Moorabool Street. Upon the conclusion of the parade, a Family Fun Day will be held in Steampacket Gardens from 12 noon until approximately 5.00pm.
ROAD CLOSURES & OPENING TIMES
Motorists and pedestrians are advised that the full length of Malop Street, from Garden Street to Moorabool Street, will be closed from approximately 10.00am until approximately 12.30pm. East and west vehicular traffic will not be permitted along Malop Street between these times.
North and south vehicular traffic will be permitted to travel along Yarra Street, Bellerine Street and Swanston Streets until approximately 10.45am, or a time earlier at Police discretion. From approximately 10.45am until approximately 12.30pm, north and south traffic will be restricted. Once the parade has passed through these intersections and when it is safe to do so, they will be reopened to allow north and south traffic flow.
North and south vehicular traffic along Moorabool Street between Malop Street and Eastern Beach Road will be restricted from approximately 10.00am until approximately 12.30pm.
Vehicular traffic will be restricted on Brougham Street between Yarra Street and Gheringhap Street from approximately 11.00am – 12.30pm. Access to the Westfield carpark on Brougham Street will be accessible at all times, however, there may be slight delays when the parade is in process when travelling along Brougham Street.
Traffic management treatments will be in place on Eastern Beach Road, between Yarra Street and Gheringhap Street from approximately 11.30am until approximately 12.30pm. This will not be a full road closure, however, motorists are advised that there may be an approximate 15 minute delay when travelling along Eastern Beach Road at these times.
RECOMMENDED ACCESS THE ROYAL GEELONG YACHT CLUB
Motorists accessing the Royal Geelong Yacht Club are recommended to travel via Western Beach Road which turns into Eastern Beach Road. The alternative route would be Gheringhap Street, to Eastern Beach Road.
Please be advised that there will be a high traffic levels in the vicinity between approximately 11.00am - 1.00pm due to the road closures for the parade. Please set aside adequate time to travel to your destination or travel before or after these times to avoid delays.
