Description

A group for anyone interested in operation from current and former Fire Tower locations or other Mountaintop, Trail, or other locations in the Adirondack Mountains of Northern New York.

See FireTowerRadio.net for more information.

Express your interest, discuss issues, or announce your planned operation date, time, and location here. This will help you make contacts, especially when attempting FM simplex contacts with your HT.

The Northen New York Amateur Radio Association is planning to develop some Fire Tower awards. For now, all activations will be listed.

Also check the SOTA W2/GA Association listings for information on summit numbers and how you can claim credit for a summit activation. If you are operating from a trail location, you can also claim credit towards the Great Outdoors Radio Club trail award.

Anyone interested in portable/QRP operation should also check out the HFPack web site and Yahoo Group. Suggested calling/operating frequencies are listed on the HFPack web site. Many HFPackers monitor these frequencies from their home stations, listening for portable/QRP activity, and they will be willing to work at receiving signals from QRP portable stations.

Was not "partly coudy" as predicted. Overcast and cloudy but not too cold until I got on top. Then cold until the sun came around 2:00 and started to get cold
