Description

The purpose of this list is to provide a forum for the discussion and exchange of ideas related to modeling 3' (and 2') narrow gauge railroads on 30" gauge (HO gauge) track in 1/48 scale. Recent developments in On30, including the continued release of On3/On30 locomotives from Mountain Model Imports are presenting the possibility of inexpensively modeling 3' gauge railroads in 1/48 scale, on HO gauge trackage. Prototype modelers as well as freelancers based on prototype practices are welcome, as are discussions based on construction techniques, prototype modeling, building and finishing all manner of model rail equipment from rolling stock to structures, and in particular issues related to modeling based on 3' gauge prototypes. This includes suggestions on how to resolve coupler height issues between On3 and On30 models, regauging of On3 equipment to operate on On30 trackage, etc. This list is intended to capture the spirit of finescale model railroading in O scale narrow gauge, on On30/HO trackage. NOTE: new members must be approved; this process is usually quick, but please include some background to your interest in this group.

Re: coupler height standard?
The "Bachmann standard" is HO height. Newer cars have removable spacer to raise coupler to On3 height.   Other modelers are mounting couplers at NMRA On3
