Our Mission Statement

Family Playtime is a diverse parenting group in the Greater Charleston area for those who advocate and seek out natural solutions to the challenges faced in caring for our families. All are welcome who are interested and open to learning or sharing information about natural alternatives to those challenges. Many of our members embrace a healthy skepticism toward mainstream thinking in their parenting practices, which is often met with criticism in the context of our community at large. As such, a primary goal of Family Playtime is to provide a forum where we may share, inform, inspire and support each other free from judgement OF one another. Respect, understanding, support and tolerance are held in high regard and are the cornerstones of our connection with one another.

In our group:

* WE STRIVE to listen with respect and communicate without defense.

* WE STRIVE to honor and accept each other's positions on the wide spectrum of "natural living," and create healthy debate without aggression in a calm, respectful, and assertive way.

* WE STRIVE to balance our communication with one another, as we realize speaking/writing and listening/reading are equally important.

* WE STRIVE to communicate from a place of connection and compassion (even when that is difficult to do).

* WE STRIVE to remember our children depend on, and live by, our example.
