Welcome to the e-mail discussion group for the Fairlawn Citizens Association of Washington, DC.
This site's primary function is to discuss issues in the Fairlawn Community of SE Washington DC, and its surrounding neighborhoods in Ward 7 and Ward 8.
The Fairlawn Community's boundary starts at the eastern end of the Sousa Bridge on Pennsylvania Avenue, SE. From there it continues to 25th Street SE and then uphill and southbound on 25th Street to Naylor Road. At Naylor Road, continuing uphill and south past the Skyland Shopping Center to Good Hope Road SE. The boundary turns northwest on Good Hope Road SE all the way to Martin Luther King, Jr Ave SE and the base of the 11th Street Bridge.
Some landmarks in the Fairlawn Community are portions of L'Enfant's Square, at Minnesota Ave and Pennsylvania Ave SE; The Marbury Plaza Apartment complex at the 2300 block of Good Hope Road which is sits up on a hill and can be seen as far away as the Pentagon in Virginia; The Anacostia Public Library in the 1800 block of Good Hope Road; Fairlawn Park, home of the community lit and decorated Christmas Tree every December at the intersection of Good Hope Road and Minnesota Ave; and Anacostia High School at 16th and R Streets SE. Planned projects include two high rise buildings, the Anacostia Gateway project development as well as a new headquarters building for the District Department of Transporation(DDOT) located at the intersection of King and Good Hope Road.
The Fairlawn Citizens Association has monthly meetings the THIRD Tuesday of every month, EXCEPT in the months of July and August, at the United Planning Organization's (UPO) Anacostia Service Center, 1649 Good Hope Road, SE, in Washington DC. Meetings begin at 7pm sharp.
