It is NOT an 8P8C (8 Position 8 Contact) which is the new industry
nomanclature for what is erroneously called the RJ-45.

Having just looked at my microphone extension cable from the YSK-100
separation kit, I can confirm that the connector is a 6P6C also
often erroneously called an RJ-11. I see that looking at the connector
with the locking tab up and the cable going away that the pinout is as
follows (pin 1 to the left):

Pin Color Function
1 Yellow SW1
2 ? Mic In
3 ? Ground
4 Black +9V
5 Red N.C.
6 Green SW2

The pinout and colors are the same at each end of the cable so it is a
"straight through" cable.

I don't have an ohmmeter handy to check pins 2 and 3. It looks like
the paper filler of the cable is stuffed into that space as I see no
separate conductors but the mic cable itself has conductors in those
spaces which could well be the shielded mic audio. Looking at Page 4
of the Owners Manual confirms my guess and they are indeed the Mic In
and Ground connections.

Steve -

Is the R45 a 4-pair cable and wired straight through - both ends wired
the same? I may not have to separate my unit. I think I can mount it
as is but I will hang on to your info just in case.

Thanks ...

I did not have a separation kit either. Here is what I did. The
separation
kit has three main parts: a "holder" for the face plate, an extension
cable
for the face plate, an extension cord for the speaker. I used Velcro to
hold the face plate to my vehicle dashboard, made an R-45 10 ft
extension
cable (10 feet is what I needed, you can make it for any length), and
purchased a pre-made 10 ft extension cord with the plugs on each end for
the
speaker. Works great and cost around $10. The most difficult was
putting
the R-45 plugs on the cable - had to re-do one end.

Thanks John. I bought my FT-100D when they first came out and I never
bought the Separation Kit. Do you or anyone out there know if they
still available?

The onboard radio/nav system manual warns that I may not be able to
install 2-way radio in my truck due to all the computers and 'bells &
whistles' installed. They say it may interfere with the way they
operate and may actually damage some of them. The manual states that I
should contact my dealer/retailer to check with them. This may just be
CYA thing but I will call them later this morning.

Thanks for your response!

Denny, couldn't you remote mount it under a seat (either the front
bucket
or, if you have the longer cab, behind the rear bench seat)? I'm not
sure
which radio you purchased with your truck, but many of them now have an
aux
in, so you should be able to feed in audio from the Ft-100's external
speaker plug.

For a low-impact install, grab some velcro and mount the face
plate/control
plate with that. You should be good to go.

Hi Paul,
most likely the VHF/UHF- PA- transistor is blown in ur FT-100. It is getting
hot, because bias-current is shortcut.
The original transistor 7043 is not available any more, but there is
suitable replacement
       Description: 231570 - M1570 MRF1570 RF Power Transistor,
       Item No: 400029963390
       Unit price: $38.00 USD
       Quantity: 1
       Amount: $38.00 USD
       Postal Compensation: $0.00 USD
       Total: $38.00 USD

available from VR2RO, OM Jack
vr2ro@...

Look for his offering at EBAY
You will need to perform some mechanical modification to the case of the
transistor prior to soldering. Please see file section of this forum for
description.
There are other transistor types discussed as well, that fit better in
mechanical terms (case), but they are all designed for 24Volts and therefore
not producing same power in FT-100 at 12Volt, especially on 70cm.

I have a D-700 installed in the center console of my 2007 Avalanche. I had the
same warning, and I believe it is just a CYA due to the way the vehicle system
is, onstar and all of that.

My truck had a cupholder and bin in front of the armrest/console area. If you
took out the cupholder the bin was removable and I mounted the main body of the
radio below the console. You will need the separation kit to do so, but it is a
fairly spacious and easy install. Another option is to turn the bin area into a
radio console similar to police cruisers by removing the bin and forming your
own brackets.

Hello.

I have an FT-100 with no ouput on 2m or 70cm.

I would presume that the MRF 255 transistors are to blame but before I dig into
see is there anything on the functions that could cause this?

HF is working fine with good 59 reports. I think this is an early FT100. There
doesn't appear to be any thermocouple mod and I have to say the radio gets VERY
hot. In that you can't pick it up after it has been on for say 30mins.

Are there different transistors for HF and 2m? Can anyone tell me which one is
which?

Hello,
I am new to the group and new to attempting to use Rigblaster. I have followed
the setup for the PnP and whenever I start HRD, it locks the FT100 transmit on.
I am only transmitting 1watt until I get this figured out. Does anyone know what
could be causing this? I am new to Ham Radio Deluxe as well.

Thanks,

According to the Manural, there should be 300 channels for regular memory

I read this a couple of times and I thought the kit had a plate, a cable for the
control head, a cable for the mic, and a speaker cable. And I think that all the
remote kits are gone or in use. I have searched for one for several months and
have not found one.

They pop up now and then pretty regularly. Check the QRZ.com and ebay sales.
even a WTB works now and then. BTW I was always real impressed with the antenna
mount you use on the old truck. Is it available or do you have plans for the new

out.....30 years of tech work would not allow me to accept defeat. I
disassembled the Display Head with it still inter-connected. Everything
worked fine. I reassembled, and encounted gradual failures. So I added
a spacer to the "Select" encoder shaft, which moved the PCB away from
the bezel 1/8". reassembled and viola. A week of frustration, but just
in case anyone else encounters this wierd failure".

I did not have a separation kit either. Here is what I did. The separation
kit has three main parts: a "holder" for the face plate, an extension cable
for the face plate, an extension cord for the speaker. I used Velcro to
hold the face plate to my vehicle dashboard, made an R-45 10 ft extension
cable (10 feet is what I needed, you can make it for any length), and
purchased a pre-made 10 ft extension cord with the plugs on each end for the
speaker. Works great and cost around $10. The most difficult was putting
the R-45 plugs on the cable - had to re-do one end.

Denny, I mounted mine in my 93 Silverado using the detachable front panel high
up on the dash next to the am/fm radio. I mounted the FT 100 on the sidewall
behind the driver side seat. My truck is a 4wd and the shifters are on the hump
in front of the center console (between seats) so I ran the cables around the
side and used the door sills (rocker panel?) to duct power and control cable to
the power unit of the FT100. mic and speakers run behind seat to center console
for mounting. My objective was to place the control panel as high up and in line
with path of vision to minimize distraction from the road. I made a small plate
to hold the front panel using the separation kit and made it 2X high so I could
mount my Kenwood TM-641A(VHF/UHF) face plate right below it. The small plate
(approx 4" high X 6"W) is mounted to a ball joint pedestal that I think was
originally designed for holding a cell phone on the dash - one of those big ones
we had 20 years ago.
BTW welcome back!
Al, WA6VNN

I have been away from this group for a while - actually, I've been off
the air for a couple of years now. I just bought a new Chevy 2500HD
Silverado with front bucket seats with a center console that extends all
the way to the dashboard which leaves no room for my FT-100D. I had it
mounted in my old F-150 on a rack mounted on the floor - on the
transmission hump and that worked out great. The Ford had a bench seat
so it was easy as I had a lot of open space between the bench seat and
the dashboard.

If anyone has mounted their Ft-100D in their truck with bucket seats and
a full-length center console please let me know how you did it.

Thanks..

I had that problem too with my 100D. Make sure you have the computer sound
card "volume control" set for maximum. You are probably not tripping the
VOX as the audio is not strong enough. Control the transmit and receive
audio with the front panel controls. The FT-100D works GREAT!

I can declare success.

Without opening up the control head, I tried the two reset procedures
in the manual and neither had any effect on the out of band TX. Since
the schematic shows R6035 and R6036 as 0 Ohm, I soldered a short piece of
jumper wire in place of the chip resistors and did the VFO/Memory reset
(hold down DSP and Lock while powering up the radio) and the TX limits
are now restored. My FT-100D now transmits from band edge to band edge
and no further.

I am also considering buying a signalink USB for my FT100. I wouldn't have
thought the VOX would be needed at all. I thought the signalink provided
it's own PTT signal based on what was coming into it from computer.

I wouldn't think VOX would even trigger on stuff coming in thru the 6-pin
data port. Does VOX work if I feed a signal into that 6-pin jack, if so I
can just hardwire that jack to my soundcard and let VOX do the work.

Thanks,
Matt K8KDR

the problem turned out to be the RJ45 jack on the signallink
I still have 1 cable that will not tx and 1 that will
both check out with ohm meter
I cant explain the problem but when I wiggle the plug in the signallink
sometimes it works and sometimes it does not.planing to send my signallink usb

Hello and 73

My setup is simple:

A cable that goes from the data link to the sound card

A cable that goes from the CAT to the USB port via a DB9 serial to USB
adapter

The PTT is made via CAT while the data goes from the sound card to the data
link.

It works with HRD.

Look, there's no substitution for being alert, and nothing wrong with
using safeguards such as built-in into the hardware. We do it every
day (e.g. does your house have circuit-breakers?). OK?

P.S. Please spare me how the analogy is imperfect, and how things can
go wrong with household electrical appliances while radios would never
do anything on their own (like a refrigerator would? :-).

With all due respect, Rich, we hear and read time and again rants of
why many hams seem to have this inate desire to be able to transmit
anywhere. I have no need for such capability and setting the radio
back to it's factory TX limits does not "cripple" it for my use. Yes,
I'm generally responsible and take care to be in my authorized band,
but if the hardware keeps me from performing a silly mistake, then I'm
comfortable with that. I prefer to avoid any appearance of
impropriety.

As well, I did not ask nor state that you or anyone else revert your
radio back to factory default. I asked how *I* might do so to *my*
radio for my own benefit. Why you should seemingly take exception to
that is beyond my comprehension.

If I've read the archives correctly (the search actually worked!) it
seems as though re-installing the jumpers and doing a hard reset may do
the trick. Recording the memories (I have few) and the menu options is
trivial and easy to do.

From an FCC "trouble" standpoint there is no difference between
transmitting on a "local PD" frequency and just being in an unlicensed
portion of an amateur band unless you interfered with official traffic, and
you DID listen first to see if the frequency was in use, right?

Almost all radios will allow for transmission in unlicensed space, so
depending on hardware to keep an opererator from being a lid is really not
an acceptable solution.

Most police departments use a squelch tone so a single transmission
probably didn't cause any interference and would probably be forgiven given
the nature of the mistake. I would assume that once you made the mistake
you learned from it and will be more careful to be sure where you are
transmitting in the future.

Your fear taken to an extreme is why novices used to be "rock bound".

We shouldn't depend on a crippled radio to keep us from making ilegal
transmissions.
