I would like to thank N8LFP and G0UIH; your advice was very valuable.
After the initial set up I received some positive feedback on my audio.
Steve, G0UIH, I've noticed you have set the MIC PWR to on; I thought
this only applies to Icom radios!?
Bill (N8LFP) I am using the PR40 Mic by Heil.

Thanks again guys...sure appreciated!

HI All,

I am having issues with my voice keyer settings. I have a MKI and a
FT-1000MP Field. The computer I ran it on before died a week ago so I had to
get a new machine. This machine has a on-board sound chipset. I set up
Router and used the settings I had before but could get no mic audio through
the keyer. The wave files played fine. I then set the internal pre-amp in
the keyer to ON and the voice came through fine as did the wave files. I did
my testing on 10M and found that, with the levels adjusted, it worked pretty
good. When I went to any other band, I get nothing but RF noise on the voice
line, which is especially bad with the amp on. If I bypass the keyer, the
audio is fine but with it in the C setting and the internal pre-amp on, I
get no useable audio. With the pre-amp off, I get good audio on the wave
files and no audio at all from the mic line using the C setting.

I picked up a PCI sound card today and got it to work after a fashion but
now I need to run the levels for the sound card and the RADIO level on
maximum to get any useful audio level. This has a touch of background noise
but the audio is no where near the level of the bypassed signal.

My questions are for anyone with this or a similar set up. What sounds card
are you using? What settings do you use? What levels do you need to set in
Router? How is it working for you?

If anyone else has any ideas, please contact me directly. I have it working
but I don't think it should be necessary to run all the levels at maximum to
get a decent audio level from the mic line.

Thanks -- Paul VO1HE

Barry good site I had not seen it before...

I bought my MK V used a year ago and am still learning how to operate it but am
over the steep part of the learning. I try to ignor the manual has much as
possible but it is helpful. I would recommend learning one new function or set
of functions. The chapt on elimenating/dealing with interferance is worth a
skim at least.

Not bad, nevertheless for me the best software ever written for CAT control and
applications is Ham Radio De Luxe from our friends from Switzerland.
Seems to be a bit complicated at the first bootup but after sometime very easy
to use.
I use it with a MkV also.

BTW, I'm using DXLabs with an FT1000MP Mark V, and a microHam Keyer II

By all means, keep it! It may look intimidating now, but as you go
along you will learn to use it, and the operating characteristics on
the front panel are well laid out, and very intuitive. One of these
days the DX bug will bite you and you will be thankful that you kept it,
as it is a dream come true when you start operating on split frequencies.

Believe me! My FT-1000MP is down right now and I am struggling with a
FT-920. The 920 is a good radio, but can not compare with the
flexibility of the 1000MP. Keep it!

Bob,

I use a RS-232 DB9 to USB converter on my older IC-781. On the Mark-V I
use a straight through DB9-DB9 cable and off course works fine. But you
don't have a serial COM jack.

When using a RS-232 to USB converter cable, there should have been a
driver program supplied with it. This driver requires you to map the
COM port to the USB converter. Then set the baud rate and data bit
information. Since you didn't mention it I suspect you didn't install
the driver and map it. The most popular driver supplier is Prolific.
The driver program is usually on a mini-CDROM.

Don't worry about the HEX parameter. ICOM radios have an address
associated with each radio. When you selected FT-1000MP Logger32
ignores that parameter.

Also ensure the gender changer is straight through.

Although I have used 2-3 of these converters, I am not a master of the
COM port mapping but I do have it working on my IC-781 interface.

Bob - W6OPO

I expect this has been asked before. I have been trying to run my radio
with logger32.

I do not have a serial port on my new laptop.

Here is what I have done so far with no success:

Installed Logger32 Ver 3.23 (working fine)
Connected the RS232 via a Gender bender from the back of the radio to a
RS232/USB cable
Opened Logger32 and setup up Radio 1 as:
FT1000MP and set all the settings as per the directions in the Help File
for the FT1000 (and tried other things as well)
Opened the Port (Went blue when I tried Comm 3, stayed red for one and
two)
Comm 3
Bauds - 4800 (default)
Radio - FT1000MP
Databits - 8
Stopbits - 2 (as suggested in the help file, but I also tried 1)
Parity - None
Polling rate - Tried most of them from 100 - 1000
Hex - left at 00 and even tried to delete them.
All other selections were left at off.

I expect this may be a problem with my cable. The one I have is a off
the shelf (Best Buy) RS232/USB. Not sure if it is Null or No Null.

What am I doing wrong?

I think it may be helpful to understand what you want to achieve.  HRD will do
pretty much everything in software that you can do from the front panel.  I
don't use it myself any more as I find it much quicker to turn the tuning knob
or push the bandswitch button rather than poke around with a mouse.  For
general logging/simple rig control, I still use YPlog or SD for contests.

Best describe what you want to achieve and there will be someone in the group
who can help.

I've used Ham Radio Deluxe, and it doesn't really provide much control over
my rig more than the basics. Just wondering what other software is available
(free or not) that works with the FT-1000MP. I have seen software for the
FT-2000 and 950 on the Yaesu website, but before I give them a try I thought
I'd check with the group to see what else is available specifically for my
rig, thanks

something it does it.

Keep the manual close at hand.

Hello all

I bought an FT1000mp (fully working) for a unbelievable price at an estate
sale. I am afraid that its too much radio for this newbee. As per the
original invoice it as purchased in May of 97. It is full tricked out with:

100 w hf xcvr w dsp/22
SSB 2.0kz if main rx
cw 220h 2nd if main rcvr
ssb 2khx 3 if main rcvr
cw 550hk collins filter 10
250 hx replaces xf-f
cw 500hz collins filder 10
txco ft-100mp .5ppm

Given its age and that it is in perfect condition with original box manuals
and mic... What is this worth and should I keep it and just power thru and
try and learn it ?

Thanks

Consider yourself most fortunate my friend. Your have a radio most anyone would
love to have. Using the radio isn't really hard if you just want to operate
simply. However, I think it fair to say most FT-1000MP owners would agree that
it take some time to learn and understand the myriad of controls and adjustments
available in the FT-1000MP. It is a wonderful radio compared to most others. I
also own an Elecraft K3 fully loaded and several other radios. Frankly, I use
the FT-1000MP more that the K3 perhaps because I have used it for a decade or
perhaps I simply love all of the controls on the front panel that I enjoy using.

BTW, please sign you next message with your given anme and call sign.

I'd check with the group to see what else is available specifically for my
rig, thanks

Bob- They are available on eBay. That is where I got mine and they
work. Just be sure to get one that includes the driver on a mini-CDROM.
Prolific is the supplier of the drivers that work for mine.

I have been trying to find the right cable that will allow me to connect
my FT1000MP Mk V to my computer.

If possible I would like to find a DB9F to USB cable that will work.

Can anyone suggest a supplier in Canada or the US for this.

I think I bought a couple from tigerdirect.com.  I know that I have two that I
use with logic8 (logging program), my netbook, and SteppIr.  It seems like I
always have trouble with the software.  I tolerate it for the most part, but am
not totally happy.

Good luck,

Give DXLab suite a try. It is a fully integrated set of programs that
manage your logs, operate the radio, calculate paths and run the rotor,
predict propagation, collect and transmit DX spots, send and receive RTTY
and PSK and do call book lookups. The programs can be used individually or
as a system. Full assistance is also available in a Yahoo group. Get it at
www.dxlabsuite.com .

HRD will work fine with a USB - Serial converter. Unless you want to run
the radio remotely, I just wonder why HRD? It is a great prog, but has (for
me) too many features. You can easily change so much from the radio front
panel. Using HRD, you can do the same but it is often slower and less
precise. I used to love YPLog as a logging prog. It was so simple,
intuitive and quick to use. It is no longer supported, but if HRD could
replace YPLog, the world would be good again.

Just got an FT-1000MP and I want to run "Ham Radio Deluxe". I was going to
interface it with a Laptop that does not have a serial DB9 connector. Does
the USB adapter seem to work? I can get one off EBay for just a couple
bucks, but I have seen those things give people problems in the past . . .

Jerry,

Those USB-serial adapters which use the "prolific" chipset work fine.

Hi Jerry,

I confirm that a USB/RS232 adapter works fine with Ham Radio Deluxe.
You need to load the driver for your adapter.
I use one of these adapter with my FT1000MP MkV

Yes the serial to USB works but you found one for a "couple of bucks"?
I would wonder about that one. I paid something like $13 or $15 and it
came with a mini-CDROM with the driver.
