D'day

Daniel C. has been helping me with the planning of my first 1:35 layout, a
micro.

I sent him a photo of a Hudson Skip that a friend of mine made up for me by 3D
printing. Daniel is interested in the skips and suggested that others in this
group may also be.

I have posted the image in the photo section. The wheels are Kadee, but the axle
boxes take most needle point axles. They can be supplied with or without the
skip & supports.

Prices are very reasonable, alterations to dimensions should not be a problem.
However, the more volume per item, the more expense!

If anybody is interested, contact me for prices and availability.

Thanks

Hi!! I am a longtime On30 modeler, and also have done 1/48th and 1/35th armor
for years...so this seemed a logical extension. I have looked at the photos
section, and there are some truly great works there!!
I am trying to find out if there are any manufacturers who do the common things
I will need in 1/32nd scale...like Link and pin couplers and mounts....or
wheelsets?? I'm going with my existing On30 trackage to allow breaking in
things. I have a donor Davenport On30 chassis, and am going from there. Not sure
how EXACT I will remain...but I will need several basics like I mentioned...and
brakes, Brake wheels, hinges, stuff like that.
Any help is greatly appreciated!! Feel free to contact me offline, too.

Dave:

Welcome to a real scratchbuilders scale!

Probably the fastest way to get lots of information about kits, parts and all that is to see the links section here in the group.
Anyway it remains a scratchbuilder's scale so many things must be done bu ourselves.
If you have been modelling 1/35 armour probably you have an excellent base for start with n.g.. Military modellers have a good name among us.

I hope you'll find what you are looking for.

A suggestion: if you are starting consider going RCC and avoiding all the track wiring issues.

       Daniel

Great that you posted that here!

Could you give us the prices of both, the complete skip and the frame only (without the skip and it's supports). ?
Please: specify if the prices includes wheels or not.

And if possible, could you post a couple more pictures of the skip so we can see more detail?

   Thank you.

Hi all:

It is not a yoke. I've been going under an incredible tiredness for months
now wich doctors thought was consequence of the cancer treatment. I've been very
lucky, the cancer is gone and that make of the rest of my life a party.
Still coping with many health problems, the doctors wasn't able to find
their source until now. Now the oncologist say it is all caused by a hidden
depression as consequence of the chemo and all the rest.
Well, depression isn't a nice thing, but being myself a therapist I know
how to handle it and most than all: I feel relieved because it is much easier to
manage out of depression than dealling with unexplicable phisical symptoms and
pains.
So I thought the best way out is to make a good plan and start seriously
working on my long delayed French village project. And so I did.
Under the title FRENCH VILLAGE LAYOUT you will find some pictures of the 3D
Sketchup drawing I've been working. It is now ready for action. I have got all
the materials and on monday construction will start.
To begin with the case on wheels where the layout will fold in. Then the
wooden structure of the layout itself. I already started building some
structures, etc. Once the layout frame is done I will start laying track what
means real fun will start too.

I know from experience that every time I draw a non-argentine layout people
comment it still looks Argentine. So I will welcome every help to avoid
"non-French" aspects of my design.

The new version of Sketchup is working well, but texture rendering is a lot
less than it was. That means textures and colours are just crazy, also if I did
my best to draw it as realistic as possible.

I think it is clear enough in the pictures, but just in case: the layout
itself is folding into the big gray case which measures 1,66m X 0,61m X 1,22m
including the wheels and the ply cover. Folded that is the space the layout will
ocupy.
Unfolded the baseboard will be a 1,30m height.

The layout itself (excl. the fiddleyard) measures 1,60m X 0,80m.

I 'have already built several layouts this way, including the folding parts
and they worked just great.(All three already sold).

I know I'm never interested in keeping a layout which is completed, and I
know from experience that selling a good cased layout makes it much easier than
an open one. So that is the main reason for this choice.

I don't expect to have much done in a short time. If I manage to complete
it in three or four years I will be satisfyed.

Knowing myself my first move was to hide in boxes all train stuff not
directly related to this project. That is the only way to avoid dispersion!

I chose for 9mm scale because it makes more acceptable to integrate 1/32
and 1/35 scale items.

The period of the layout has changed. It has been too hard to find good
sources for pre WW1 vehicles and other things, so I placed it someqhere in the
'50s. This will aloud me to include many bashed military kits and figures and
there are plenty of vehicles to fit that period.

What the railway will be transporting is not decided yet. I have a
prefference for mainly a touristic line carrying also all kind of stuff
to and from the harbour, but can't avoid some fruit transport "for export".

So that is the plan. I have already three RCC locos in preparation. Two
running on Magic Mrain 0-4-0 mechanisms and one on a Bachmann's closed streetcar
mechanism. Still will need to find a way to model rerally French locos instead
of Henschells or O&Ks.

I wish I had Otto's modelling skils for rendering a loco as his Eneret
Decauville, but I don't; so I will see what I can do.

All curves are 200mm radius and the track 16,5mm.
Unless Mamma Cash comes to assist me, all switches will be hand opperated.

       So that was the niews.

                       Daniel

Dave,
Welcome to the group, if you are looking for a good quality Link ^ Pin
coupling, then you can try these from Alexandra Scale Models, they are sold
as HO scale but are way too big for that, but about right for 1/35th scale,
the big advantage with these type of couplings is that the inner shelf helps
to hold the link out horizontal when you are coupling up. The body is cast
white metal, and the link and pin is brass. You can get them via the link
below

Nice job on the Baldwin, Brian, makes me want to build one, or two.
Regarding the paint work, it reminds me something that Ward Kimball (of Disney

may have done on his own lokie.
Nice job with the camera, too.

I forgot to mention I did all of my own etchings as well, this loco has a
builders number of #51922 which was my fathers DOB 5/9/1922, my dad died
Febuary 2010 just when I started doing the design work to build this loco,
hence it has my fathers nickname "Rusty" which is the name that most people
knew him by.

Daniel,
When you click on the thumbnail, and the photo opens look at the top left
and you will see "Medium", "Large" and "Original", just click on the
"Original" and it will open to the big size.

Brian:

Woodie is right and I have the same problem. When i saw it completed I
forwarded your mail to this gorup even before that you was here. It is a
beauty! Both, the loc and how is done.
How did you painted it so nicely?

I know I may be boring but could you post a picture of bigger size so we can
see more detail?

Thank you.

Brian-wonderful loco! The only problem I have with it is that is that it is
not on my layout. Excellent paintwork and detailing.

Brian,

That is a beautiful engine. Though I doubt I would ever build one with such a grand paint scheme I can certainly appreciate all the work that went into it.

Now, as to the wheel arrangement, that I could see running on the Chisos.

Thanks for sharing.

Hi Daniel,

Have you looked at the bodies for T5 and T3 Decauvilles to go on the Magic Train
chassis ? http://www.letrainmagique.com/Tarif_letrainmagique.htm

My limited correspondence with Clement Scmitt led me to suspect these models are
closer to 1/35 than they are to O scale. I had hoped to acquire two of each, but
it seems regrettably there is a problem getting him to post them to Australia,
so at this stage I've given up trying to obtain them. I'll be in France in a few
weeks but nowhere near Strasbourg unfortunately.

Cheers

Ian:

    Thank you.
Yes, I know those models. I don't consider them an option because the scale.

I think they are 1:45 (0e) wich is the continnental European equivalent to the British 1:43,5 and the 1:48 American 0n30. So, indeed, a bit too big for 0n30 but still at the small side for 1/32 or 1/35.

But it is good to know Le Trein Magique is selling MT parts too. I suppose that will not be for long since the MT range is already out of production.

Please, let us know about the real scale if you get those models.

The conversions for my Magic Trains mechanisms are already in preparation.

    Thank you for the tip.

Brian-thanks for the info about Alexander L&P couplers. Alas, it is way too late for me. When I got into 35n2, I wanted to use them but was told, by "wiser" store owners and others, that they were long gone. So, I made my own...for all 30 something cars I now have and don't feel like converting them nor suffering the cost. What have I learned? The lesson is to not listen to any "wise......" any more. Well, at least my couplers do the job and when you actually operate a layout, that's all that matters.

Woodie,

Actually at several times the Alexander L&P couplers were not in production  or hard to get before being "picked up" by Tomar Industries. Mine were on back order for some time before I told the shop to stop. Nice to see them around again.
