Hi folks,

unfortunately this is not downloadable in it's entirety, unless you are affiliated to the Universities listed.

However individual pages can be downloaded, and this is an awesome early Narrow Gauge catalogue, with beautifully clear engravings and dimension charts.

Hi folks,

for a British motorcycle that is a little different, Tamiya have brought out a 1/35th BSA kit

Two figures (a despatch rider and MP) are included...possibly require a lot of surgery to demilitarize?

Hi all,

Why on earth do the manufacturers in this scale assume that 99.9% of people from
this time period were in military uniform 24/7, or, if not, were carrying guns ?

It is so hard to modify a lot of these clothes into civilian dress for the
period.

Cheers

Hello All,

In my change to a larger scale, I have found some 1/32 Messrs. Bantock and Lantz Hudson "V" tub skips in 16.5mm-18mm gauge that I need to part with.  One boxed set of three are completely unbuilt.  The other set of three had been put together by the previous owner with CA glue and painted, but are now coming apart and are complete.  These sets are the earlier sets with the white metal tubs that won't warp in the hot sunlight.  $80.00 US takes the lot and I pay shipping here in the U.S.  Airmail to Europe or anywhere else will just be an additional $7.00 US.  Anyone who is interested, please contact me off list.

Because the international market for model military vehicles and personnel
is huge. Those interested in a 1:35th scale civilian bike and rider
probably all belong to this group :<)

So the solution is to join them, well so I thought. I began my 1:35th
layout '1970's Rhodesian - A Country at War'. Lots of unique military
vehicle conversions to make, reasonably easy to convert various figures in
modern Rhodesian military like WWII German Cossack horses carrying modern US
Rangers :<)

Then my thoughts to making some African civilians. I can buy a few WWII era
European figures and modern middle eastern terrorists by nothing even close
for Africans (other than Hornet African male heads). Darn, I think I'll
just have to conscript the entire population on the layout.

Probably a smart choice would be to model Marocan, Afghanistan or other of such countries. All you'll need for making lots of figures would be heads and hands, the rest won't be dificult.

Another possibility would be to model China or Taiwan: very little of the heads is vissible and they all use boots so modifying soldiers won't be much work.
Actualy I had in mind a Taiwanees small mining layout inspired on the film we all saw where most of the work is being doing by rope or by hand at least to the rotary tippler.

Hi all
I haven't been too active modelling lately, but have managed to make some
progress on my model of a threshing machine. Not the core topic of our group, I
know. If you want to see the how the building and painting has progressed check
into http://www.flickr.com/photos/nystrup_grus/sets/72157627397262407/

I have started a new module and is right now making the basic terrain features.

When the threshing machine is finished I plan to restart my Muir Hill Fordson
project. I have finally thought out some possible solutions to the problem that
made me shelve the Fordson loco.

Hope your Christmas preparations are going according to plan.

Best regards

Hi Claus,

Looking great !!

My grandma had a summerplace next to a farm which had a similar machine. Sadly I was to young then to remember it in action, only remember climbing around on it in there barn.. we were playing it was a space-ship. Yours maybe does not lift of, but sure looks splendid anyway .. :P

I have found the quality to be about normal for this type of kit.  I have built several others and unless you get into etched brass wheels etc this is a good as it gets.  At least the parts fit well.

Hi Daniel
No, I'm not actually planning for an agricultural layout. But it is no secret that Nystrup and the gravel company I'm trying to create in 1/35 are situated in a rural area on the Danish island of Sealand some distance away from the capital Copenhagen.

But rural it is to some extent and the 600 mm. gravel line intersects several fields and crosses quite a few narrow country roads. I hope one day to display the thresher and a Fordson tractor together on a module.

Another reason for building the thresher is that my grand dad worked on a cooperatively owned thresher/Fordson combo in the 1930'ies. Later he had a job at a brick works where he worked driving both excavator, lorries and locomotives. You can actually see him in this image http://www.ibk.dk/Orebo%20Tglv%20c1940_2.jpg , standing on the locomotive built by a Danish manufacturer that built app. 120 locos. The photo is from the years (1940-1945) when Denmark was occupied by Germany as the loco carries a gas producing generator to fuel the engine.

My grand dad managed to do a whole lot of things during his 93 years long life and I have quite a few photos of him on machinery that could end up being modelled in the future - might even be tempted to sculpt a figure of him...So modelling can actually serve to honour and remember your family.

Sorry for the long message...

Best regards

Claus

Daniel-while I love the old motorcycles, cost IS a big factor! I found those
cool NEW RAY 1:32 Indian bikes (6 of different years) and the usual Tamiya
models, including an old Harley Davidson and have more than I really need. I did
see an old Miniart WW2 Harley kit at the local hobby shop which had etched
spokes, etc. When I looked at the price, it was $35 US...a bit much for
"scenery". As for those "unscale" models that have lousy spoke details, how
about using them in a scene with other "action" that would distract the viewer
from the lack of proper spokes. That's what I do and nobody ever notices the
defects. Have fun and take care.

Yes, I thought the one with the sidecar could be a great source for parts in a motorbikes workshop.

Found this review. Doesn't sound the greatest for a foreground model, but, as the review says, maybe better than nothing...

Hi folks,

for a British motorcycle that is a little different, Tamiya have brought out a 1/35th BSA kit

Two figures (a despatch rider and MP) are included...possibly require a lot of surgery to demilitarize?

regards

Geoff

Hello,

I bought a couple Arii kits when I was in Japan recently visiting my daughter. They are cheap [about $10] and good quality and also have small scenic roadside details included though some of these I've only seen in Japan. I liked the small K 3 and 4 wheelers. Even if you are not into early Japanese cars they look good as background items in this scale.

Cheers

John

If the link doesn't work searc for Arii

John,

I agree. I bought a few kits, mainly mid 50s and early 60scars that look a bit like copies of Hillmans that came to Australia.

I have yet to build them, but the mouldings are good and the detail level quite nice.

Geoff
