Mike, Don't want to rain on your parade but I experienced a similar problem with my 582 Rotax around the 300 hr mark, battery went dead, intermittant charging

Looks like you confirmed that the reg is bad. IF, when your reg is working, AND, the tach is still jumping up--re-route the pulse wire to the tach away from

Thanks Roger and Mark. Correct, the actual RPM does drop on both mag checks, but the gauge jumps up 400 RPM when one is grounded and drops about 50 when the
