POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Director, International Programs

Salary Schedule: Administrative & Professional

Salary Grade: D

Entry Salary: Salary negotiable, starting at $63,266.03

BASIC FUNCTION:

Directs Study Abroad; Directs International Initiatives; Directs International Student Services. Responsible for energetically sharing and creating a vision to internationalize SPC and foster the staffs’ and students’ global perspectives. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Creates a college-wide internationalization strategic plan that entails collaboration with stakeholders to help articulate and implement.
• Promotes visibility of international education endeavors on campus, and emphasizes skills in the international arena as an essential component of a well-rounded education.
• Coordinates a globalization of SPC through the academics and student service aspects of the institution.
• Ensures the preparation of reports for government agencies and educational institutions.
• Supervises Center for International Program employees.
• Develops, promotes and directs International Studies programs, initiatives and International Student Services, including but not limited to economic development, professional training, reciprocal agreements, study abroad, student exchanges, international student internships, sister college relationships, and faculty exchanges.
• Develops and coordinates appropriate partnerships and collaborations with businesses, governments, and other colleges/universities as appropriate.
• Collaborates with other SPC offices, including Student Life & Leadership, Financial Assistance Services, Admissions, Business, Counseling & Advising, and other offices that serve students.
• Seeks out partnerships and negotiates articulation agreements as appropriate.
• Coordinates with appropriate offices and agencies to plan visits for International delegations.
• Oversees and directs International Students visitor program, faculty exchanges, Fulbright Scholarships, and student exchanges.
• Administers equipment, materials, budgets utilized within study abroad, initiatives and International Student Services programs.
• Coordinates the implementation of in-service training programs for faculty as requested.
• Interacts with external industries, government representatives, businesses, and professional groups on behalf of the College.
 

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Master’s degree from an accredited institution, preferably in a field compatible with government and higher education, or international business/international relations; or the equivalent in related experience.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Four years of related administrative experience, including:
• Experience in international education including developing, directing and administering programs and services, as well as budgetary and supervisory experience.
• Experience in study abroad administration and/or advising and experience working in international student services.
• Demonstrated leadership and commitment to diversity.
• Demonstrated commitment to engagement with local, state, national, and international communities.
• Demonstrated ability to provide administrative support in areas such as policy and program development and coordination between various campus entities.
• Direct experience with the principles and standards regarding federal compliance regulations for international students.
• Demonstrated ability to resolve complex immigration problems.
• Knowledge of visa processes for both incoming and outgoing students, including knowledge of F, J, and other relevant visas.
• Extensive knowledge of the issues related to education abroad, including knowledge of pre-departure orientation, financial aid, risk management, and other issues related to education abroad.
 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

• Evidence of excellent project management, program development skills and entrepreneurial approach.
• Ability to deal effectively with students, faculty and staff. 
• Comprehensive knowledge of the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).
• Exceptional administrative skills, including strategic planning and evaluation, budgeting, personnel management, and knowledge of fundraising and public relations.
• Ability to successfully manage multiple projects.
• Ability to think creatively and to successfully execute new initiatives.
• Knowledge of micro-computer applications in management.
• A successful candidate is expected to have excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Superior time management and organization skills. Must be innovative, responsive, and self-directed.
