Hi folks, we just had someone from Australia in the store who told us about a
new play opening at the Guthrie, which is somewhat up the Mythic alley:
It's called Northern Lights, Southern Cross, and according to their blurb, it's
"the epic story of an ordinary man. Kevin Kling is a regular Minnesota guy,
until his motorcycle hits the asphalt and his injured brain wakes him up on the
other side of the world. Guided by Aboriginal artists, members of the Twin
Cities Community Gospel Choir, and members of Native Pride Dancers, Kling's
journey home is rooted in cultural mythology, storytelling, ritual dance and
music, the humor of the tricksters and the healing sense of place."
Sounds very cool and Shamanic. Though the pictures for the play have everyone
in clown noses and makeup which worries me somewhat.
But there will be authentic ritual dance and didgeridoo and all that jazz.
Here's the link to the Guthrie site:

Nice catch! I usually don't post those, since this is MN. I just saw the
subject and went ahead.

It was Sunday morning, and Thraicie was just opening up, when the first person to walk through the door followed her into the cash wrap and flashed a knife at her, demanding she open the cash drawer. Actually, at first, she thought it was a pliers, but it was a leatherman-like multi-tool and it was the blade that was out.
I won't go into the play-by-play, the important part is that Thraicie managed to dodge out of the cash wrap and through the front door and onto the street where she screamed like a Valkyrie to get attention and witnesses. I later learned that the scream was truly of stellar hollywood quality, and was heard inside an apartment building two blocks away. The would-be burglar, who was right on her heals when she got out, quickly ran down the sidewalk, dodged between two houses and into the alley (we presume). Thraicie immediately called the police and they came pretty quickly, dusted for fingerprints and whatnot. He didn't get any money and he didn't take anything. But most importantly, no one was hurt . . . shaken, but not hurt.
Why am I sharing all this? Well, of course we've saged, cleansed, blessed and called on our guardians to give the store a "reset" so we are basically okay, but we do ask that you send us a little blessing, and send some good vibes to our guardians, to both strengthen and thank them. No one was hurt, nothing was taken, and we hope that scream scared the would-be burglar enough that he'll give up such notions in the future. So we do feel blessed and we are thankful for the good fortune which allowed Thraicie to get out of a bad situation. But although we've done all the saging, and the bad vibes have been cleansed and such, this isn't the first violent incident recently on Lyndale . . . there seems to be a bit of chaos trying to move in and we need to keep it at bay. That's why we are asking for a little good energy sent our way to keep the baddies away, brighten the general energy at the store the next few days, and bring all the good and cool people in that we really are in this business to serve.
We aren't asking for security advice, and we don't want to discuss the incident with everyone, we just ask for blessings and good energy. And yes, we do have an alarm system, complete with panic button (police summoning talisman), which will now be worn rather than just strategically located. No, we don't have video cameras. This is the first incident in almost 6 years in business, and expect it to be the last such, because we trust we'll just be too darned busy that it will never be quiet enough for such an intrusion.
Oh, and Thraicie doesn't know I'm sending this. I'm sure she'd prefer to be all stoic and not ask for help or anything, so thanks for being there in a very underground or underworld or otherworld sort of way.

At Eye of Horus, we
look at all the products we offer, the way we do things, the people we work with, and the concerts
or events we support, and we ask the question, "Does it have heart and
meaning?" So when we heard that the fledgling Sacred Paths Center
(which opened this March) was struggling, we decided to step up.
Because the answer to that question, when it comes to the SPC, is a big
YES. Here is their description off their website:
"Sacred Paths Center is a unique blend of retail, healing center,
classroom space, community space, library, art gallery and more. We
strive to honor all spiritual paths but focus primarily on
Earth-reverent religions. Our primary goal is to offer a place to come
together as a community. We are a non-profit 501(c)3 organization."
They
have enough space to provide room for events, rituals and concerts with
seating of over 50 people. In fact, Thraicie and I attended a
last-minute concert performance by SJ Tucker just a couple months ago.
It was awesome! We have also been talking with them about hosting
off-site events or workshops which need more space than the store can
provide.
We
just got the Email this morning that they needed to raise $10,000 to pay
past-due bills and keep their doors open, with $5,000 due by the end of
the this month, and the remaining due by the end of September. This
felt like a physical blow, so we decided to do what we could immediately, and sent
them what we had in our Paypal account. But we wanted to do more.
10% Solution Sale
So
we're also having a very special kind of sale this weekend. The fact
is, we've never had a sale, because we try to provide the best prices
every day. Well, not only are we going to have select clearance items
on sale for 20-30% off, but 10% of the
gross sales of ALL merchandise sold on Saturday and Sunday will be
donated to Sacred Paths Center.
Reiki-Artist
Beth Hansen-Buth will also be here on Saturday from 1pm to 5pm offering
Reiki Energy Healing for $1 per minute, with all the proceeds going to
the Sacred Paths Center. That's right, 100% of the price you pay for
Reiki will go to the SPC.
So stop on in and stock up on candles or incense, or pick up that
statue or piece of art you've been thinking about, and know that 10% of
your purchase price will be going to benefit the broader pagan and
earth-spirituality community.
What does your heart tell you?
We
are also asking all of you, even if you are not local, to take a
moment, and ask your deepest heart and spirit whether you can give a
little extra to help this seedling make it through to Harvest.
Better
yet, become a member of the Sacred Paths Center. Even if you can only
do $5 a month, you enable their ongoing effort to provide the space and
the resources to support a spiritually eco-conscious community:
If
just 25% of our Email and Group list can become members at $10 per month, the SPC
won't ever have a crisis like this again, because their costs will be
covered.
If you don't have the funds to give, please light a
candle, open your heart and send out strength and an image of that
donation jar full and overflowing . . . and of all the great events,
circles, potlucks and gatherings that can still happen at Sacred Paths
Center.
But most importantly, don't delay. Give today. We did.

Hi, I'm forwarding this info because I think there might be some of you who
haven't heard about it, and because our very own Chuck Boe is one of the
presenters:
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
The Minnesota Area Tarot Symposium is just two weeks away -- but there's still a
little time left to register!
In fact, we're trying to round up as many last-minute registrations as we can,
so that everyone can enjoy a fun-filled weekend of tarot parties and workshops
in Eagan, this July 24-26.
This is your chance to socialize with other tarot enthusiasts and learn from
some of the country's leading tarot experts. (And at just $78, this one-time
opportunity is affordable, too!)
To register, visit http://minnesotatarot.wordpress.com.
MATS WORKSHOP PRESENTERS
JULIE CUCCIA-WATTS, creator of the Ancestral Path Tarot, the Blue Moon Tarot,
and the Maat Tarot, is one of the world's best-loved tarot artists. Julie has
painted well over 250 original oil paintings over the past 20 years,
specializing in portraits. However, her passion has been bringing new life into
tarot symbolism. Her decks are consistently in high demand among tarot card
readers and collectors. At MATS, she'll introduce us to the four queens of the
tarot.
CORRINE KENNER, the author of Tarot for Writers, is one of the country's most
prolific tarot writers. She's produced a wide range of books and publications,
including Tall Dark Stranger: Tarot for Love and Romance, Tarot Journaling, The
Epicurean Tarot, Crystals for Beginners, Strange But True, Simple Fortunetelling
with Tarot Cards, the Ma'at Tarot Workbook, and the forthcoming Wizards Tarot
Deck and Book. At MATS, she'll show us how tarot can unleash everyone's creative
writing ability.
BARBARA MOORE, the author of the Mystic Faerie Tarot, is recognized worldwide
for her contribution to the art of tarot. The cards have been a part of her
personal and professional lives for years. Barbara enjoys the challenge of
giving a voice to tarot cards and oracle decks. She has written books for
several decks, including A Guide to Mystic Faerie Tarot, The Gilded Tarot
Companion, The Hip Witch Tarot, Enchanted Oracle and The Mystic Dreamer Tarot.
AT MATS, Barbara will demonstrate the use of tarot as a tool for life mapping.
JEANNETTE ROTH, owner of www.tarotgarden.com, has been collecting and studying
tarot decks for over 20 years. She has presented lectures on topics related to
tarot evolution and imagery around the Midwestern U.S. for nearly 15 years. She
is the co-owner of The Tarot Garden, which maintains the largest
publicly-accessible database of 20th and 21st century tarot and cartomantic
decks in the world. At MATS, Jeannette will offer insight into the Star card's
evolution from the Renaissance through the present day.
NANCY ANTENUCCI is a seasoned tarot reader as well as a teacher of intuitive and
creative strategies. She brings 20 years of hard earned wisdom, practical
know-how and unending passion of the creative unknown to her clients, students
and colleagues. Recently, the Twin Cities Metro Magazine named her one of the
Twin Cities' best psychics. Nancy regularly teaches tarot and intuitive
development classes in Minneapolis and St. Paul, where she also leads quarterly
Mystery Circles. Nancy is also a regular presenter at the annual Women's
Spirituality Conference in Mankato, Minnesota. At MATS, Nancy will entertain us
with playful tarot-based puppetry.
CHUCK BOE is a professional tarot reader at the Eye of Horus bookstore in
Minneapolis. He has a master's degree in human development, and he wrote his
thesis on tarot counseling. Chuck uses the tarot is a tool for spiritual
guidance. He stresses that the answers we receive from the tarot should be used
to heighten our understanding of issues in our lives — they're not definitive
messages about our future. At MATS, Chuck will demonstrate new ways to
incorporate counseling practices into our tarot readings.
Before we even put it on any calendars, before we even have a date for tickets
to go on sale, we're letting you know.
What: Wendy Rule Live from Australia, Kari Tauring Opens the show
Where: The newly Renovated Capri Theater
http://www.thecapritheater.org/
When: Thursday Sept. 17th. Doors open at 7:00, show starts at 7:30, and finishes
by 10:30.
Eye of Horus will be selling tickets, of course. The show is being co-sponsored
by the Eye of Horus and the Northside Arts Collective. We're trying to bring
tickets in at or below $15, with a group discount for 5 or more. We won't have
final pricing until the Capri finishes negotiations with a ticket agent. They
literally, just re-opened with new (actually re-used from the old guthrie),
seating, state of the art BOSE sound system, etc.
The Eye has also secured the first three rows to sell to y'all. Not sure how
many seats are in that premium location, though. I'll be getting details in the
next couple of weeks. No, we are not charging more for the premium seats. We're
just offering the best seats to our customers. Because we like you and all.
I will update the Yahoo Group, Newsletter Mailing list, MySpace, Twitter and
Facebook as soon as I know when tickets will go on sale, where, and for how
much.

I agree with mom hen, some of us don't use facebook or twitter for whatever reason. Im on yahoo all the time and I wouldn't ever see your info if you just have the other two. But you have to do what is best for you and your business and I would understand. Good luck in your decision making!

On the other hand, some of us wouldn't be caught dead on Facebook or Myspace or Twitter or <fill in the social networking blank>.
Jane, since this is truly a voice of the business, methinks that business logic is the most sensibly applied. If this list is a drain of time and energy for the business, then it's a candidate for the chopping block. But if not, it might make sense to keep it on the back burner, so to speak. I'd be loathe to give up the group entirely, only because it would (eventually) allow someone else to grab it.
Perhaps an alternative would be to set up a monthly reminder to the group that most of the social networking occurs on your Facebook page. That would keep enough activity to keep Yahoo happy with the group, and still reserve the ownership so that (heaven forbid!) if something should happen to Facebook the facebook account (hacked, shut down, nuclear holocaust, etc), you'd still have EoH-Yahoo to fall
back on.
Just my two clucks.
