IMPORTANT!!!! Read the bit below before subscribing, please.
This group discusses issues related to an Extensive Reading approach to reading particularly in second and foreign languages.
This group is now a target for spam attacks so if you wish to join please send TWO emails. One to the normal subscribe address ExtensiveReading-subscribe@yahoogroups.com and another to waring_robert @ yahoo.com (the moderator's address) explaining your reasons for joining. Anyone who does not appear to be a spammer will be admitted.
However, if you only send a subscription message with no follow up email, you will not be admitted. A simple message such as 'I like this group' or 'I want to learn from this group' is not enough. These messages are often used by spammers so I ignore all those who do not provide adequate information to show me they are interested in ER. I've been fooled a few times already as I want to respect the integrity of the group and let only serious ER types in.
The message MUST include your reasons for wanting to join this group. This MUST include:
a) your interest in ER
b) why you want to join the group
c) a bit about your background
This need not be longer than 2-3 sentences.
It may take a few days before I can get round to joining you up. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Commercial messages are generally not allowed especially if the poster has not declared a financial interest or is blatantly self-promoting either a website (even if it is an EFL/ESL one) or their own materials. Members are asked to inquire of the Moderator before posting such messages or they will _be_banned_on_first_offence.
Ron, Do those books have an EPER level? You might be able to reference them to something else if they do, using Rob Waring's previously linked tables of ER
Glen, Tom et al.... I should have used the term "level" rather than category. Our levels are similar to Penguin's. I did think of providing a page like Tom
We have quite a bit of native speaker "youth literature" in our own library and we have found that we have to place it up rather high in our set of 10 levels.
I like this category of Children's Book-Native Speakers. The illustrations usually show the pun. I have used Amelia with many adults and they were delighted.
