BBC Online News released this article this morning: Monday, 27 October, 2003,
10:28 GMT
It is about a fictional story written by Frances Somers Cocks. The book is
entitled, "Abraham Hannibal and the Battle for the Throne." This book is a
sequal to "Abraham Hannibal and the Raiders of the Sands," which was released
back in April.
The story is about a young Ethiopian royal who is kidnapped and taken to Russia,
where he was a slave for some time before becoming the favorite adaptee of the
Czar of Russia, Peter the Great. Then later, Abraham becomes the Cheif Engineer
of the Russian Army and the Architect that helped build the city of Saint
Petersburg.
The BBC says, "it beats the stereotyical African tales." The first book has sold
a thousand copies, and the author is looking for Ethiopian publishing companies
to begin the production and distribution of these books in Ethiopia. The author
is having difficulties getting the books recognized, but that might change once
the Ethiopian community endoreses it. The story is targetted towards the younger
generation. It might help recover the sort of reflection that is perceived about
Africa by her young nationals.
