I noticed on page 10 of the newsletter that I have our meeting posted as the 10th. It should have said the 9th, on Upcoming Events it is correct. Please let anyone that does not already know that our meeting is next Wednesday, December 9th.
The EAS Open House was a great success with about 20 visitors and 8 stops. It was great to see everyones fish rooms and tank setups. The peoples choice for best tank setup was Jim Saunders planted tank with dwarf Saggitaria. I would like to thank everyone that attended and the generosity of those who allowed us into their homes. I look forward to next year for even more stops and attendee's. Scott Ray

We'll have another posting with more infomration as we get closer to the date.
Don't hold me to this, but we usually open the doors around 10am for
registration and start the auction at noon (12pm). This is for aquatic items
only, fish, tanks, plants, filters and the like. Hope you can join us and sell
those fish you bred or pick up some deal on that tank. You are also welcome to
this event.

There is a big auction of a petstore in Cleveland. I believe it was Sunday July
12th. Website is www.grossmaninc.com. Many big tanks for sale. Just letting
everyone know. Also many supplies and a bit of everything. Take care all.
Those looking on our Website for 'seller sheets', for our auctions. They are in the File Folder, which is the same place the our latest 'Auction Flyer' should be.

----- Forwarded Message ---- From: "daphnia@..." <daphnia@...> To: erieaqnews@... Sent: Thursday, January 29, 2009 6:37:52 AM Subject: angel post on mesage board
I tried to post this, but it didn't seem to take.....
There are two good ways to raise angels, artificially, and by the parents in a loose approximation of nature. Any tweener methods are likely to cause harm. If you are going to remove the fry from the parents, decide to remove them as eggs before they are developed very far and all still stuck on the breeding slate or cone. If you attempt to remove the free swimming fry, the angels will
regard you as a predator, and their only natural defense to preventing the success of a predator is to eat the fry before the predator can start making an easy living off the angelfish community. You may catch a few fry the first time, but they will learn and gobble them as soon as they see you touch the net. Eventually you will have taught them to become fry or egg eaters. It can easily take three or four tries in the right conditions for a pair of angels to learn the moves to raise their fry and care for them. Eventually most pairs will succeed, and you will know when it's time to remove the fry at the point where in nature they would be striking out on their own. The pair will start showing the fry "the door", but in an aquarium there isn't one, so it has to be you. Catching out the pair and leaving the fry behind is always the better method. It reduces the chance that the pair will squabble and break
the pair bond, even in the artifical system although then the slate should be downsized into a smaller tank and slate removal is quick. Even pairs that have long been used to having the eggs stolen by you every week or so, may raise a brood, if you leave a slate in because you are out of angel-raising tank space. I'll end by repeating that you should make a decison early and stick to it how a pair will be groomed, either artificially or "naturally" and plan your set up and equipment to be right for that method.
When I had angels, once the fry were free swimming I moved the
parents. Not knowing how your setup is, that may not work for you. I
had 2 29 gallon tanks to make this work. Of course, if one of the
parents started getting beat up by the other, you may want to even
separate them. It depends on if you can move them. I found it hard
to move fry as the parents would get upset and then you have to be
real quick to get them before the parents. But getting the fry away
from the parents - whichever you move - is the best bet to get to
raise them. Some parents will eventually become good, but almost
anything could spook them and then the fry are gone.

I have a breeding pair of angel fish. Their third batch of eggs made
it to free swimming for 5 days (further than the previous 2 times),
then they all disappeared. Should I remove the fry when they become
free-swimming and if I do what is the best set-up to move them to.
They are getting ready to spawn again and I would like to have some
survive (I have been feeding them baby brine shrimp).
Still have it along with a pair of hood lights. You can give me a call at
866-0241 if your interrested.
