Description

This list provides a place for everyone who has or has had a horse with Cushings Disease or similar problems and symptoms. Here we can share experiences, pass along veterinary knowledge and research, offer advice, and help each other deal more effectively with the diagnosis, symptoms, problems, and emotions that occur.

I initiated this list for my partner of more than 30 years -- the awesome little mare "Night Flight" (Tina). She was diagnosed with cushings in 1994. She passed suddenly from unrelated causes at age 31+ early in 2002 while out enjoying the pasture with her buddies.

Please start by taking a few minutes to read the files emailed to you on subscription even if some of the terms are new to you. At the very least, carefully read the initial Welcome message, New Member Primer, and Suggested Temporary Diet for Horses that may be Insulin Resistant. These are short but will provide a basis of understanding so members can quickly help you. Then use the link in the welcome message to enter your horse's initial history into the database where it can be easily found by list members as needed to recall details of your situation.

Then post any questions you have to the list. Of course, if you are in a really desperate situation, you can just post directly to the list, but actually taking the 20 or 30 minutes necessary to read those 3 files and enter your animal's data in the database will help speed things up considerably for you because we'll be able to understand each other and all relevant details of your horse's situation.

I think you'll find the list a tremendous help that can drastically improve your horse's quality and length of life, as well as share a lot of emotional support. You'll be amazed at how much you learn in a very short period of time, so don't be intimidated by the detail you will find. As you become comfortable, you can help other members in turn and pass the favor forward so to speak.
