I didn't quite finish the fastenings, because by that time I noticed
something... It was not especially flattering on me. So, if anyone wants to take
over my ao dai, let me know. It's a rosy red with nice white flowy pants.

I don't know of any particular place to get such wool. But try searching with the words 'summer weight' or 'tropical weight' wool rather than wool 'flannel'. Flannel has a particular structure. It seems you don't care so much about that structure as the weight.

I made the suggestion at that meeting that we could consider making simple
t-shaped self standing armor stands to drape clothing on from different time
periods. After having seen these demos for years I always notice there are a
couple of empty chamber rooms and always "see" the potential of setting up some
type of large self guided display, like clothing dummies, in one of these rooms.
If I were a spectator I'd be more comfortable walking around and getting a good
close look at some of the garb and reading about the time period it belongs to.
We could also string up a clothesline and more garments in a timeline approach
if we like. Basically anything that is hard to damage or steal (we could always
ziptag stuff together).

Here is one we might want to try to do someday:
Some British museum tours where the guides and reenactors have a high degree of
costuming knowledge offer a brief session in how to dress someone (a woman) in
full elizabethan costume from undergarments to the complete outfit. The model
usually wears some form of leotard and is dressed in corset, chemise, etc....
with each layer being explained. It would take a brave model and savy presentor
to do this well but this might be an interesting talk for a team and moves the
discussion along to focus on each type of clothing item worn in a specific time
period.
Just so you know.. I do not volunteer to be "the model" <smile>
A similar presentation might work well for male garments if the model wore
something like swim trunks or exercise shorts. It would be nice if the time
periods matched, but they wouldn't have to.

Greetings to the Fine Endewearde Tailors!
The Fort Knox Demo is quickly approaching and we are starting to plan for,
hopefully, some great presentations.
I would like to start a thread on the group to start talking about what the
tailors can bring to/do at/or present at the demo.
At the last shire meeting, someone came up with the idea of building some sturdy
clothing racks that could be used to hang and present some of our best period
garb. Maybe we could offer a little blurb about each piece, what period it
represents; how/what/who/when/why someone would be wearing it.
As silly as this sound, I recently was asked if people wore undergarments in
period! I found myself mentioning all sorts of unmentionables in the form of
underpinnings, codpieces, corsets smalls, hosen, Braise and all manner of
medieval underwear! So my point is that a lot of non-Scadian people don't know
some of the most basic stuff and a lot would be interested in even what we might
take for granted. Not to say that we should have a grand display of
undergarments at the Fort!
Other ideas?
Anyone interested in helping out to represent the tailors? We could use some
knowledgeable people to interact with the visitors, answer questions, and break
the 4th wall, so-to-speak. This might even recruit new members! 8)
So let's chat about this on the list and don't be afraid to contact me off list
with anything that you might want/need/have questions about.
Hope to talk more,
Nevell the shoddily dressed
Yay, I think it would look better on one of you. With me, it's the shoulder
issue. I think I need a neckline that breaks up the expanse.

I did know about that website--they sell coat weight wool and it says they only
sell in 1 yard increments. :(

Hi everyone, and especially Mira, who put on the kirtle workshop--
I've got my kirtle almost done! After two attempts at sleeves, and a near gore
disaster, it's looking pretty good! I'll post pics soon, but I do have a
question: How far apart do the eyelets for lacing need to be? Also, I am
looking for lacing cord. Joann's has a limited amount of lacing in mostly black
and white. Where else should I look?
Anyone's advice would be much appreciated!
