# J643 - "I could suffice for Him, I knew--"

Hi, Dickinsonians.

Poem 643 (Johnson) was "manufactured" by Miss Emily into
booklet 9 circa 1862.

I could suffice for Him, I knew--
He--could suffice for Me--
Yet Hesitating Fractions--Both
Surveyed Infinity--

"Would I be Whole"--He sudden broached--
My syllable rebelled--
'Twas face to face with Nature--forced--
'Twas face to face with God--

Withdrew the Sun--to Other Wests--
Withdrew the furthest Star
Before Decision--stooped to speech--
And then--be audibler

The Answer of the Sea unto
The Motion of the Moon--
Herself adjust Her Tides--unto--
Could I--do else--with Mine?

--Emily Dickinson

Obviously, Dickinsonians, the SAM B letters in Poem 643
"disturb" the "Circumference" folks so much that they can no longer
deny the relevance of "biography" to exegesis of her poetry! They
have been won over by their "silence" :) Honey always did capture
more "Bees" than Vinegar, to quote the "bard" :)

Surely, everyone "KNOWS" the debt of gratitude Miss Emily showed
Elizabeth Barrett Browning in the making of Poem 643, with the
"referent" to her "face to face" sonnet about the love Elizabeth had
for Robert Browning. Thus, the "Secret Love" Miss Emily felt for her
"Master" is captured in her "echo" poem based on the "biography."

And who can "deny" the existence of the "cryptology" referent to
Samuel Bowles in the SAM B letters, in CAPs, in more than one
thousand poems--but particularly Poem 643 (Johnson)::
"Me--Both--Surveyed--My--Sun--Star--Before--And--Answer--Sea--Motion--Moon--Mine\
"?
Certainly not I! :) Obviously, the "speaker" of the poem is Miss
Emily and the "addressee" of the poem, the "He," is her "Master."
And we all "KNOW" who the "Master" was by now :) As it was
"manufactured" in 1862, the same year Sam Bowles travelled across the
"Sea" and "Withdrew the Sun"--her code-name for "Him"--the
"biography" aids "exegesis" of Poem 643 (Johnson).

Take a "fresh" look at Poem 643 with the "biography" in "YOUR"
mind :)
