Hi Hugh,

Yes, I am interest.

This idee have passed my mind before, to install an old cellular
telephone in the car (hidden) and then using the AUX socket on the
phone interface with the car alarm immobilize.

I tried to obtain the pin description on the AUX socket but was not
successfully, just to see if it's possible to do.

Could someone help, with a URL to obtain the pin layout /
description on the Nokia cellphone.

Or do I try to hunt rainbows; it would not be possible.

Regards

Jan

I am a computer student and I wanted to do a project in communication
between two computers. I was planning to do dialupnetworking without
phonelines. I want to use a wireless device instead of phoneline. A
transciever which can be connected to a modem and fool the modem that it is
connected to a telephone line. This has a small problem. We will have to
produce a dialtone, and when the modem dials the device on the other modem
should produce ringing tone.

I am also planning to make a device which can be connected to an ethernet
card doing the same thing, eliminating wires. This also has a problem. This
needs a high quality tranciever which can handle very high bandwidths.

If you can help me please send me some additional information regarding the
circuits I can use .

Since nobody really responds to audible car alarms anymore, and
everybody hates them, it would make more sense to have the sensors in
the car alarm trigger, via RF signals, a message sent to a pager,
phone, or audible alarm within the house. This would allow for more
discrete notification, and possible tracking of the vehicle. It
would also be possible to set up two-way communications between the
vehicle and base station in home or cell phone so the owner could
yell at the theif personally. That would be fun.

I would love to hear the end of loud car alarms. Especially the
Viper ones that cycle through the same tone patterns over and over
and over while I'm trying to sleep.

Some students at UC Davis where I used to go had set up their own
wireless ethernet that way. They hooked up their dorm computer's
ethernet to a transceiver and put a microwave antenna on top of their
dorm building. Then with a laptop they could go anywhere on campus
and pick up the two-way connection. Just like ethernet, no wires.
All dorm computers there had shared T1 connection, so it was very
fast. It was a hoot to see streaming video in the middle of a grassy
field.

I didn't find out much about what they actually did, but I know it
sure is possible.

If your willing to take a bit of a risk not getting EXACTLY what you
want, I'd sugest old over head projectors or slide projectors. There are
plenty of source for older second hand lens assemblies for cameras that you
could probably look into. Also, older laserprinters or photocopiers might be
helpfull. I also do a bit of photography as a hobby, and have found some
interesting lens, mirror and optical components from these sources. These are
actually of quite good quality it seems........    Also,  If your after
specific information cheaply about lasers and optics, there are I'm sure some
GREAT texts in the physics section of the local library.........

Nonsense..Go to www.repairfaq.org and check out Sam Goldwasser's Laser FAQ.
Or go get "The Laser Guidebook" by Jeff Hecht, published by McGraw-Hill, ISBN
0-8306-4274-9 , Cover price is $44.95 and worth every last penny of it.

Thanks Keith and Peter for your input on this. Keith, do you have a
web address for 'Messrs Griffin and George' as a yahoo and lycos
search became very convoluted. Peter, I took your advice and went to
the Boeing surplus near my home. I was able to find several of the
old TV cameras used for survelience for $5.00US each. I am anxious
to strip the one I bought to see if it will do the job. The case is
perfect for the laser simulator I intend to build. If the lens works
then we are off to a great start. ttyl, Jim

Is there anybody that can help me to design a pic based interface for a brainwave monitor? I need at least a four channel display. It can be for pc or gameboy.
I think a dual channel oscilloscope presented in EPE magazine, based in 16F877 can help, but I would like to know how to add more channels. In Elektor was presented a gameboy based oscilloscope, but I have not read it.

The analog part is easier for me.

A West-coast buyer and associates he is working with
have developed some modifications and addendums to the
original documentation for these VFD displays, which
are an advanced version compared to the original
versions.

The new docs help you with hookup, power-up reset, and
serial mode operation, featuring several photos. Hope
this helps.

-original message-

I have a large quantity of used Futaba M202SD08
standard character display modules (vacuum flourescent
displays or VFDs) for sale for $15.00 each, with free
shipping. (Free shipping in the US only - foreign
buyers need to conact me for shipping rates)

On my VFD page at
http://mem.tcon.net/users/5010/5491/vfd.htm you'll
find photos, specifications, a link to the operations
manual in PDF format so you can download the manual
free, a link to Futaba for further information, my
eBay buyer / seller ratings, and more.

These VFDs can be used in a variety of applications
such as BASIC STAMPS, 80C52-BASIC controllers, PCs,
robotics, PICs, PLCs, miscellaneous projects for the
electronics hobbyist and experimenter, and more.

These displays were removed from good equipment
because they weren't "showroom new". A few of the
pixels are slightly dim, but each has been
individually tested and found to be in good working
order.

Each module comes with a 30-day guarantee (minus
return shipping charges) if returned in undamaged
condition with your sales receipt.

They may not be suitable for production use, but they
are a terrific bargain for experimenters, developers,
prototyping and hobbyists.

These VFDs retail new for $70-90 each, but I am
offering good used ones for about 1/4th that price.
Only $15.00 each, shipping included.

I accept personal checks and money orders, or you can
use your credit card securely via PayPal to order with
the "Buy-It-Now" button on my page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact
me.

I think most of these things are very simple. I recently had a
cigarette lighter just like that that ran on one AAA battery.
Usually, they only contain a coil. They work just like the coils in
autombiles. You energize the coil with the battery. When you open
the circuit and the coil is de-energized, the lines of flux collapse
and produce a very high voltage for a very short duration. This is
the way high voltages for spark plugs are derrived from 12 volt
batteries. My older brother gave me this lesson once (40 years
ago)with a model "A" coil he had wired to a chair in his room with a
battery and tap switch.

Yes, but it would be easier to use an adapter to convert 1/4" to an RCA
phono jack. The mechanical connection with an RCA plug/jack is much less
reliable than the 1/4" and will pull out a lot easier, which could be very
inconvenient when you are playing, not to mention the additional noise that
will be introduced. The poor connection (compared to the 1/4") will raise
hell with ground loop problems too. Gold plated connectors are a must to
minimize these potential problems - even with an adapter. Good luck with
whatever you decide.

Normally this is not possible for both jacks. One of the normal
functions of the 1/4' jacks in guitar pedals is to make up the ground
side of the battery connection effectively turning the pedal "ON"
That is why you should always unplug your cables when not in use to
save your battery. Since the RCA jack does not have a switch (not
any I have seen), the 1/4" phone cannot be directly replaced.

1/4" phone male to 1/4 RCA female adapters are plentiful and cheap.

I think you'll find a Hall effect sensor much easier to use in the long run,
But I've never used one, so I can't give you detail on how to use them. I'm
sure any number of book at the local library should be able to hewlp you with
that more reliably than I can.......       Good luck.......

Here's a couple of simple things I did with some Allegro
hall sensors. They make it real easy these days. The
ones I used only have 3 pins: +5V, ground, and output.
I don't know about max frequency, but you can follow
the links to their site. There's linear and switching
output types. And one is a switch that turns on when
it sees either pole of the magnet. Free samples online.
