Subject: Static Electricity what a bummer?
worldwidemd
Send Email Send Email

I noticed this afternoon when having a qso with both AF8x and kg4lzy
that my speaker's for the computer were making this horrible
crackling sound. Mind you I had been out of town the last few days.
Well the static had built up so bad that when something even moved in
the room it caused it to get worse after a few minutes I discharged
all the radios and the computer and since then havent had a problem.
What a bummer though I thought the worst to a minute to figure out
what was going on? But its all good. I almost ordered the new radio
shack htx-400 today but for $269.00 I figured I had better wait its a
cool little rig though.

Well I spent last night on the Knoxsville repeater last night and
had some great contacts all over the west side of the country. Its
cool to be able to go to bands that I cant go to right know so if you
have limited transmission capability this is another alternative for
you to get on the air. HF was also hopping till I went to bed last
night I was monitoring quite a few station out of the south on 10m.
Sure wish 2m would pick up activity like 6m though, according to
everyone I have talked to thats been on 6m for a while this is one of
the best years to be on. Makes me wanna go pick up the 5054Dx that
much more.hmmmm what to do. Anyway good luck Dxing and catch you on
Echolink,or somewhere.

There is a repeater on Echo link that links downtown new orleans. I
met some mighty fine fella's there last night kb2rip,its nice to know
there are good old fashioned non political people out there to talk
too. I talked to pat for quite some time last night and we had a ball
I plan to be on the repeater in the future. The subject of topic
Echolink and HAM radio and its problems was discussed for quite some
time. The question of the evening Linking Repeater VIA echolink?whats
the rules can we if we acknowledge we are the control operator or
what? Nobody seemed to know the answer to this question. Another
question came up as to mandatory ackowledgement of your callsign's on
certain repeater link's. I dont think so, I and several other's have
Boycotted these perticuliar links to include repeaters that announce
your callsign when you link to ther repeater than they expect you to
announce your call sign again, then they say that you will be band
from the machine if you dont? What is up with that? I dont beleive in
this stipulation and wont communicate on this perticular machines.
You dont have to on the regular ham band and you shouldnt on the
ECHOLINK side either as far as I am concerned. Just another hams
point of veiw.

  Well John
The first question is do you have echolink. The second question is if
you dont have echolink Why not? Check out the files section theres a
link there for ECHOLINK and load it up then just go to the members
page check out the callsigns that are posted and give a call via
Echolink.I am mostly on the 6m linked repeaters or just talking to
someone from the group. So when you get it downloaded give me a
call,KG4LMU,Clarkston,MI...

Hey Gang: I downloaded and installed ECHOLINK. It installed fine up
to the point it asked for my password. I used my Yahoo Groups
Password and it came back with an error message saying something to
the effect: "If you were with ILINK before use the same password". I
was never with ILINK, so I don't have a password. Am I supposed to
make one up to use with ECHOLINK? the Setup screen won't let me get
back in to change it. That area is all "grayed" out and won't let me
type anything in there.

Anyone who has installed ECHOLINK Please give me some help. I would
like to get my program up and running.

Thanks, 73's John N4SHX

Well when you download ECHOLINK it may take a few days for the
ECHOLINK staff to validate your callsign if your not a licensed ham
radio operator of course you will not be validated. If the system
doesnt come online in a few days then I would E-mail them with the
problem your having. I also would like to welcome the new members to
the group as I have been out of town for the past several days. I
would also like to thank the Traverse City Michigan ametuer radio
repeater and its owner for all of the support during there feild day
it was an honor to be invited and I had a blast on the 900mhz machine
and to the traverse city and surrounding area members welcome to the
group and feel free all posting's are welcome.

echolink you may have to wait up to 3 days for your callsign to be

than the rig blaster. I hope this helps those of you that are new and
have questions about the system. Although there are other systems out
there EQSO,Ilink and others this group is dedicated to the use
echolink any arguments pertaining to the use of other systems will
not be tolerated by this group and its moderators. As there is no
need to make a mountain out of a mole hill all systems of this nature
fill there differant needs of ham radio operators all over the world

Any new user may enter the the knoxsville Tn.146.910,kg4szw will be
simulcasting the net to make room for more user's due to the fact
there have been several user's that have asked about the net via
echolink and other yahoo groups including ours. The K1cwb only has
room for 10 and the and the kg4szw has room for 8. I have also
contacted n2len to see if he would be willing to simulcast it through
the n2len conferance server and that would give us the capacity of up
to 100 people. I have sent n2len an e-mail and am awaiting a
response. Due to the fact the some user are not able to log on at
all. There is a simple trick you can try by clicking on the station
tab and entering your own callsign and node number this will enable
you to connect to yourselve. Once this is completed you should be
able to connect to other station's. Also there is a new upgrade
coming out in the next few days with more bells and whistle's for
those of us that cant get enough of echolink. I do not have the exact
features of the upgrade but am told it will be worth your wild to
download the new upgrade when its available.I will notify the group
when this upgrade is available to download. Again thanx for
participating in the group. 73's and have a great weekend.

I just wanted to let you no I agree with you in certain aspects of
the whole thing. However I would like to point out My personal
opinion that as long as Ham radio in general doesnt become dependant
with so called bootleg operations if you will I dont see the problem
with it as long as the control operator is responsable of the
station. Furthermore it seems to me that the hole fiasco is becoming
another 10/11m ordeal that hams just dont need to jeopordize a good
thing. I have several freinds that have ham tickets and because of
echolink there back on the air! To see the system challenged because
of minor problems shows lack of interest within the core of the
entire ham radio family. The biggest thing you here about today in
general radio is the lack of new ticket holders. I beleive and haven
proven that echolink will fill that niche thats missing within the
ham radio community. As I said but this is my personal opinion but
the fact remains it is a landline based/cable system and to count on
such systems in worst case scenerio's is not dependable.

The "minor problems" originate from some Government
authorities. Personally, I'd like to see a lot of these problems go away,
but we have to live with them.

Well, it adds to our diversity. It could also be that a disaster occurs
during a major geomagnetic storm, and HF is useless on the day. The more
modes we have, the better odds that at least one of them will work! :-)

If you have a problem with connecting with people on echolink here is
a quick fix. All you have to do is connect to yourself, and this is
how you do it. Go to station and connect to, then you type in your
call sign and the node and connect to yourself the disconnect and it
should work after that. Hope to catch all of you on echolink, KG4LZY

Well if you were at the tech net tonight you may have heard that the
new ham link is going to be working. This software looks as good as
the echolink system. I hope it takes off like echolink did. However I
am sold on the echolink package and will soon be putting up a
echolink station. I am currently waiting on the schematics for a
cheap uplink to my cpu the rig blaster is a little steep on there
price to say the least. Anyway I hope you all have been enjoying the
echolink system. The last few weeks we have been posting mostly net
information due to the fact that there are so many. for those of you
that are new the files section is loaded with all kinds of good
information so take a look. Also I would like to say anyone wishing
