The International Space Station's Expedition 11 crew may be
winding down. However, their ARISS school contacts will
be very active this week with 3 scheduled sessions.

Each session will be a telebridge conducted in English.
Sessions will be held on:

5 October 16:59 UTC -- Princeton High School, Princeton,
New Jersey
6 October 15:07 UTC -- Ft Hamilton High School, Brooklyn,
NY
7 October 13:33 UTC -- Ridgefield Park High School,
Ridgefield Park, NJ

Princeton High School, Princeton, New Jersey

Station NN1SS in Greenbelt, MD will call NA1SS at
approximately 16:59 UTC.

"Princeton High School is a nationally recognized high
school listed frequently in various publications denoting
outstanding academic achievement. Princeton High School
students excel in the humanities, the fine arts, and the
sciences with students performing in Smetana Hall in
Prague and competing with the US Physics Olympic Team in
Seoul, South Korea. The student body is a diverse group
representing a wide range of interests and backgrounds
within a school community in which 17% of our students
claim one of 38 languages other than English as their
first language."

Students will ask as many of the following questions as
time allows:

1. Are the shapes of the continents as defined as they
appear on maps and globes?
2. How much less time will pass in the ISS than on Earth,
due to relativity?
3. If it weren't for family and friends, would you want to
return to Earth?
4. What are the day-to-day jobs of the space station?
5. How do you sleep?
6. What is the worst situation you've encountered in
space?
7. What luxury do you miss the most?
8. How fast did you travel to exit the earth's atmosphere?
9. How would you describe space when you look outward? If
you space walked, what went through your mind the first
time the airlock opened and you saw space?
10. What does weather look like from space? For instance,
could Hurricane Katrina be seen moving?
11. Can you really see landmarks such as the Great Wall of
China from space?
12. How often do people get space sickness in the ISS?
13. When you come back, what will you miss most?
14. How much of the day is left to yourself and for
sleeping?
15. How much bone and muscle mass will you have lost
through out your trip? How would it be if you went to Mars
for 3 months?
16. What is good or the best on the menu?
17. When were you first interested in space travel?
18. What about space intrigues you and that you do not
understand? What have you been able to learn in your
travels as of yet?
19. My brother wants to be an astronaut. What advise can
you give him?
20. How does your body feel in low gravity? Can you feel
the effect? Is it like floating?

Ft Hamilton High School, Brooklyn, NY

Station VK5ZAI in Kingston SE, South Australia will call
NA1SS at approximately 15:07 UTC.

"Fort Hamilton High School is large urban public school of
5000 students in a suburban setting of Bay Ridge,
Brooklyn. Our school reflects the ethnic diversity of New
York City. We have strong academic programs geared towards college
preparation, with
advanced placement and honors classes in all disciplines. Our
communication with will
benefit our student population, especially the astronomy classes."

Students will ask as many of the following questions as
time allows:

1. What motivated you to go into space?
2. Did your journey so far fulfill your expectations? Why
or why not?
3. How long did you have to train to prepare for your
space flight? What was the most difficult part of your
training?
4. How is the training you received actually different
than traveling into space?
5. How long will you stay at ISS? What type of work will
you be involved with?
6. If you could change one thing about your space mission,
what would it be?
7. Besides your family and home, what do you miss the most
about Earth?
8. How do you spend your free time at the ISS?
9. Do astronauts have to do daily exercises and what type?

the shuttle moving after you leave the atmosphere?
11. How are basic life functions like sleeping and
digestion affected by the zero-gravity environment at ISS?
12. How are medical problems such as illness or breaking a
bone dealt with in space?
13. How would you fight a fire in a zero gravity
environment?
14. Are there any plants or animals on the ISS being
experimented on? What type of experiments?
15. Is the supply of oxygen on the ISS constantly being
supplied or is there a machine that produces it?

at approximately 13:33 UTC.

"Ridgefield Park Junior-Senior High School is a 7-12
school of approximately 1,100 students located in
Southeast of Bergen County. The school is a receiving
district for 9-12 grade students from Little Ferry, a
community that borders south west of Ridgefield Park, just
across the Hackensack River."

"The school has a proud history that includes some rather
famous graduates. Among them Ozzie Nelson of Ozzie &
Harriet fame and Bud Lewis, the copilot of the Anola Gay
which dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima, which
signaled the end of World War II. It is also the proud alma
mater of Greg Olsen."

Students will ask as many of the following questions as
time allows:

1. I have read that you plan to use your company's
miniaturized infrared imager to observe Earth's atmosphere
and agricultural crops on this trip. What do you plan to
do with this information and how do you foresee it will
help us in the future?
2. Why are you turning the infrared camera toward space,
and what do you hope to accomplish?
3. What new products do you foresee as the result of the
experiments conducted on this mission?
4. Sapna and I won a national chemistry competition based
on our ideas for the development of a transdermal nutrient
patch. Is anything like this currently being used in the
space program or do you foresee its use in the future?

and entrepreneur like you want to travel into space?
15. How will this opportunity to experiment in space
benefit others (adults, children)?
16. How different do such celestial bodies as the sun, the
moon, and any of the planets look from space as compared
to how they look from Earth?
17. What would have happened if anyone had gotten
seriously sick during the trip?
18. Was all your training in English or did you have to
learn Russian to be involved in the program?
19. Do you see yourself as being involved in the U.S.A.
space program someday?
20.What are your plans when you return from this Russian
mission?

As always, the ISS will be audible to anyone listening in
on the 145.80 MHz downlink. Please note, since these are
telebridges the ground stations will NOT be near the
school that is contacting the ISS.

Please note, the amateur equipment on the ISS will be
turned off prior to the beginning of the contact. It will
be returned to service as quickly as possible.

Upcoming ARISS events can be found at
http://www.amsat.org/amsat/ariss/news/arissnews.txt
The next scheduled event is with students at Princeton High
School, Princeton, New Jersey on Wednesday, 5 October 2005 at 16:58
UTC.

ARISS is an international educational outreach program partnering the
participating
space agencies, NASA, Russian Space Agency, ESA, CNES, JAXA, and CSA,
with the AMSAT and
IARU organizations from participating countries.
ARISS offers an opportunity for students to experience the excitement
of Amateur Radio
by talking directly with crewmembers on-board the International Space
Station.

Teachers, parents and communities see, first hand, how Amateur Radio
and crewmembers on
ISS can energize youngsters' interest in science, technology, and
learning.

Further information on the ARISS programme is available on the
website
http://www.rac.ca/ariss (graciously hosted by the Radio Amateurs of
Canada). Information
about the next
scheduled ARISS contact can be found at

Ben, I went through all my emails and did not
see a reply. SO HERE WE GO.

Winlink, not voip software, it is HF vhf, uhf, software for sending emails
via amatuer
radio out of a devistated area. (used by ares groups alot) IT is also a way
to communicate
via HAM RADIO on a daily basis. www.winlink2k.org i think is the website.

EchoLINK: this is VoIP software. www.echolink.org
WiresII: hardware specific and propriatery to Kenwood and it too is VoIP.

WiresII to EchoLink, to my knowledge, this has not happened and probably
wont.
I have heard wiresII is loosing it's ground (falling to a "OLD TYPE" of Voip
product, like repeater link 98)

IRLP: this too is VoIP and it too is propriatery but in a hardware way.
(must be connected to a Radio/repeater)
IRLP is not a pc with mic and speaker system. A little more intensive, but a
lot more fun. (my opinion being I run
both IRLP and EchoIRLP)

My question to you is: What is your goal in mind and what do you want to do?
What are your wanting to accomplish? personnal use, repeater connection type
node, portable, ect.
no one person is the same, I jsut happen to help piont those who ask to the
right road.

You are incorrect in statement regarding echolink not being linked
to wires2. Echolink has been linked to all of the other VOIP
software available including IRLP and wires2.

The Northwest Arkansas KnotHead Group has a Simplex Net every Saturday
Night at 8:00 p.m. on 146.400. The Net covers Arkansas, Oklahoma,
Kansas, and Missouri. I have decided to incorporate Echolink into our
Simplex Net.
The KE5CLW-L (Node 254633) is located in Springdale Arkansas, and the
KE5ETN-L is located in Prairie Grove Arkansas and are linked together
during the Simplex Net. If you have a Link or a Repeater and or if you
are just a computer user we would like to have you link up to us and
get in on the Net.We take check-ins and also have discussions. So come
on by and visit with us if you can.

Note: The KE5CLW-L and the KE5ETN-L Links are in operation Mon-Fri From
5:00 p.m. till 10:00 p.m. and Sat-Sun from 8:00 a.m. till 10:00 p.m.

Thanks,
Bret Bolinger

" I have yet to see a wiresII MODULE support Echolink. "

That was were the previous statement was going here. I know
there are 7 nodes who have a WiresII module connected
to a/the/their repeater system, but it(wiresII) is not an Echolink
supportable
item (not to jab at the Echo projects that are out there, but
there are no hard drives installed in the wires module as far
as I remember) that can have Echolink running within it's self.
Now as far as I know, I do know there is 2 wiresII nodes
that have been cross platformed so they can connect to Echolink
but there was not much to talk about it's operation.
So no, my statement was not a FACT, it was my opinion.
Also, there are no known systems that have BOTH WIRES and ECHOLINK
running on the same computer to my knowledge as of this date nor since 2002
when WIRES and WiresII came about.
(I have been doing Voip HAM Radio since Repeater Link and RptrLink 98)
That dates back to early 1996. Oh wait that's about the time Nextel rolled
out in
Florida too.... ha ha

While searching Google, I did not find anyone with any website
dedicated to WIRES II and Echolink COMBINED, so there may
or may not be a true documented site about a true wiresII to Echo
system, thous my opinion is this, you still have to have 2 computers
to cross platform the two systems. Any Electronic Engineer Tech
can take these and Engineer a cross patch cable for them (WIRES and Echo)
and make a few modifacations to the software and wala, it's a
dual system. (BTW according to the WIRES website, there are 17 US nodes
on line at the time of this email and 40+ japan nodes)

But I did find this one.......

I am not incorrect, just not informed enough that WIRES II and
EchoLink are tied together, and is a really big deal now.

Also I AM incorrect stating WIRES II is a Kenwood thing.
It is Yeasu that handles the WIRES II system, not Kenwood.

Not a flame reply or taunt, just an opinion that we all share.
VoIP is here to stay and is a very important tool to ANY HAM!

Hallo ECHOLINK-RADIO,

This summer I wanted to run a Echolink station from the scouts camp ground of
the world
youth day over the local HF-Gateway, but there was a problem: I had no
internet connection
and so there was no chance for me to get the node numbers of other stations to
connect.

I solved the problem on the next day by printing out a list of all
echolinkstations on
echolink.org, but that was only a snapshot and when I startet, many stations
had gone
and others had logged in and I had the same problem again.

Back home I had an idea: what about providing an up-to-date list via packet
radio ?
I sat down and wrote a small perl script called Echolist to list call,
location and
nodenumber of logged in echolink stations.
This script alows to enter up to three search strings or regular expressions
   to search for stations.

   Examples:

   "elist New York"
lists all Stations with the words "New York" in their location text.

   "elist DO1EH"
lists the node number and location of the callsign DO1EH.

Even more interessting is the use of regular expressions:

   "elist d[a-r][0-9]
Lists all stations beginning with D followed by any charakter between A and R
then
followed by any number between 0 and 9 in other words: it lists all german
stations.

Currently a german version is installed in DB0FHN and was successfully tested
on the
Jamboree On The Air (JOTA) last weekend.

To try it out just connect DB0FHN via packet radio, type in "shell" to enter
the linux
shell and then type in the elist command as shown above.

If you want to install the script on your own packet radio node write an email
to me
(rnh@...) via packet radio: do1eh@DB0UHC.#NRW.DEU.EU and I send you a copy
   (english or german version).

All you need to use this is a packet radio node with perl support and internet
connection.

RR Just wanted to point out in the past echolink has been linked to
wires2. However due to its lack of use fewer and fewer have been
interested in wires2. Echolink and IRLP have become the main staple
of VOIP and I feel will continue on this path for quit some time.

Get rid of NORTON INTERNET SECURITY! It screws up everything....  your router is a good firewall....

To open a port in the Windows Firewall... go to the Control Panel , choose windows firewalls, then choose exceptions
