Hi, I have been on Echolink for about 8 months. Is there any way you
can connect to a link or a station, especially one of the 'nets'
without putting out a signal. Basically, I would like to just listen
in on some of the nets, especially the wx or emergency type nets.
Thanks alot

If the net is on a server or on a link that doesn't send a connect message you will not transmit or make a system transmit unless you push your selected PTT. There is a feature that I do think everyone should use when just listening is the listen only in the tools menu. Many times we have ran nets and had people on computers keying up and tie up the system and not even know it. I also suggest to change the PTT to momentary and move it to the plus sign on the keypad. (if not on a laptop) This way its harder to key over a net. Also many times on the bigger nets you are asked to go on a linked server that has all stations muted. This is great for the operation because it gives people out of the disaster area the chance to hear what's going on but not key up by accident and will no longer take up the bandwidth of the connections that are using the VoIP system to communicate. I hope this helps... Any more questions please let me know...

Please pray for Jim Thompson AKA Possum. He died following a heart catheterization 1/25.
He had his memorial service last Thursday.Autopsy results for cause of death is pending. Ham radio was his life, he always said that hams have such camaraderie
and was proud to belong to the group. Please pray for him ...

If you havent already check out EQSO but please abide by there
guidlines, there are several xlinked links via echolink that will
allow you to catch alot of action on echolink.
I found out about this software from a local repeater that has it on
there repeater. So I decided to try it out. It works I can run
echolink and the team speak but on the team speak software people can
only listen. I am in the useca server for a direct link go to

Hello,
I'm looking for help trying to get this set up correctly. I have the
software installed. Every time I try to connect, I get a 30-second
time out error. I read on the help files of Echolinks website about
forwarding the UDP 5198 and 5199 in the routers settings...
Could someone provide a little assistance from this point? I can get
into the routers menu, but I'm not quite sure where to go from
there. I normally would try my own trial and error, but this is a
work set-up and I can't afford to make a mistake that I can't
correct...
Thanks in Advance,

i all,
What is the best router that works troublefree with ECHOLINK?
I have an SMC Barricade 7404BRB connecting my home LAN to my ADSL
256/128 line and I get a lot of disconnects when operating ECHOLINK
and also a lot of broken voices, since this router seems to me that it
considers ECHOLINK incoming packets as intruder packets, due to its
tight rules for DOS attacks etc. Yes I have followed the proposed by
ECHOLINK webpages firewall rules for SMC routers but no joy.
When I disable the firewall of this ADSL router, ECHOLINK works
without any trouble. Strange but true.
I have tried to tweek this SMC router of mine but no results. I cannot
find any information and an e-mail to SMC did not solve my problem
either. They told me to phone their HOTLINES all over Europe but when
they hear about ECHOLINK they do not know.
This router has a special setting for H323 protocol, but when I setup
UPD timeout to the same value as for H323, it does not seem to help.
I am all mixed -up. Any ideas please?

I have used a linksys 2.4 ghz for well over two years trouble free
going through a Wb2rem board also trouble free.

Subject: The "Other Group"
I miss your discussions on the other group. It seems the only thing
they have left to talk about are router problems. I have a few brief
comments on what has happened. It is not meant to hurt anyone, but is
the way I feel so I might as well bring it out in the open.
1. First of all I live in a valley totally surrounded by Mtns. The
closest big town is Las Vegas which is 65 miles away, but we cant
talk to them on UHF/VHF because we are totally blocked by the
Mountains.
2. Several years ago while travelling in California I made friends
with several IRLP Node operators, but when I returned to Pahrump I
had no way to keep in contact with them. So you can picture my JOY
when I saw echoIRLP for the first time. Of course you can also
imagine how disappointed I was when someone explained what it was.
WHOEVER THOUGHT UP THAT NAME SHOULD BE SHOT!!!!!! The average Ham
radio operator has no idea what it is.
3. The only people that could have taken any offense to "Other
discussion" was IRLP people and if they consider us to be so far
beneath them, what are they doing in our group.
4. Since this was a discuussion regarding Echolink and the pitfalls
of IRLP how could they INFLUENCE the GROUP GODS to ban Echolinkers
from the Echolink site. Healthy discussion is good if the IRLP people
took offense, then they must be GUILTY.
5. I have a problem I have a ROTO ROOTER can anyone tell how to route
in through my Toilet Bowl, into my RADIO so I can see what HAPPENS.
