That was pretty awesome! And the fact that it was done in C&T was even
cooler!

I will not be in attendance on Monday as I'll be out of town working...
however, I believe that Lord Tadc is planning on being there, therefore there
will be at least one marshal present. So show up!

Greetings!

This note is a reminder that this coming Sunday April 3rd there will be
another large scale fencing practice in Der Welfengau. It will be held at
the University of Guelph, in the University Centre's Peter Clark Hall from
10 am until 5 pm. A map of the campus can be found here:

http://www.uoguelph.ca/campus/map/

Here is a parking map:

http://www.parking.uoguelph.ca/images/CampusMap2010_11.pdf

The best place to park is probably in P31 and parking is free on weekends.
Unfortunately you can't drop stuff off at the door because of the bus only
loop in front of the UC but there is a passenger drop off slightly closer to
the UC.

There will also be a dance practice in conjunction with the fencing so if
you know any dancers, please let them know.

There may be food available at the end of the practice but I need to get
details and I will let you know when I have them.

Yours in Service

Darn but we're booked already!! Is this the first notice, or did I
miss something earlier?

But, anyone coming for FITP can detour through Guelph for some fun on
their way home!

Hi All!

So I've been asked to Marshall the List a Fool.

In the theme of the event, I am opening the list to those who would be
interested in teaching anything associated to rapier, or wish to lead a practice
of some nature. There are no limits to what can be taught, from basic foot
work, melee drills to period master manuals. If you are interested in teaching
a class or leading a practice, please let me know by contacting me at

tamlin01@....

Please include the following: Class or practice title, class or practice type
description, amount of time and field required, what day you would like to teach
Saturday or Sunday?

PLease send me this information before April 9th so that we can post classes and
advertise appropriately.

EAOD Prize fights will get advertised as well for those who have already been
published in the Tidings.

Yours truly

I am thinking of offering a hands-on class to make gorgets for rapier if
there is enough interest. The class cost would be $25, and you would finish
with a usable gorget (and if you have not finished, the equipment will be
available for you to keep working over the weekend to finish it). The
gorget would be in aluminum, and a picture is in the E-Raier photos:

Is there interest?

Awesome! As long as someone's teaching it, I'm happy! We need to convince more
people to join in.
I'll see if I can make it down.

I don't need a gorget myself, but I'd pay for the chance to own a pair of metal

I couldn't turn down such a great opportunity to make a gorget that fits my long

The link doesn't work for me but yes, those are the ones. There are a few
proposed changes currently sitting with the Earl Marshal, which is why you
don't see a 5.1 yet. If and when those changes go through, I'm sure there
will be an update.

If you would be so kind as to cross post this to your respective lists I
would appreciate it.
Have your people who are wanting to host battles/tourneys to send me the
following;

Host of tourney/battle
Name of tourney
Default weapons
Default rules and any special conventions
Selection of 3 dates and times
What they don't want to conflict with if possible
Location ie. woods, fort, rapier list etc...
Summary of the event

have them send it to;

wardermacnish@... <mailto:wardermacnish@...>

Also remind them that they are to ensure that there are enough Marshals
to cover their battles/tournament.

Yes, of course it's almost here! I lost track of time... Ack.

Come one, come all! Murder Melee this year is the weekend BEFORE Father's Day
weekend (Thursday June 9th to Sunday June 12th). Same site as the last 3 years,
Blue Springs Scout Reserve, 14009 6th Line Nassagaweya in Acton.

The schedule will be roughly the same as last year, though I have not finalized
anything yet:

List open on Friday for sparring and such, depending of course on the
availability of marshals. I do not yet know if I'll be there on Friday day.
Work schedule is pending.

Saturday, 10am: Inspections and authorizations. The earlier you get there, the
better.

11:30am: The 3rd annual MM novice rapier tournament! This year I'm planning a
round robin style tournament, depending on numbers of course. We had 9 last
year, including the King! :) To enter, you have to be a fencer who has had
their primary authorization for less than 2 years, and not won this tournament
before. The only weapon style permitted in the tournament this year is single
sword.

I have not yet heard from Lady Jocelyn whether there will be an Academy business
taking place. If someone is planning a prize fight, please let her and myself
know. The sooner I know, the sooner I can finalize a schedule.

1:30pm: MELEE MELEE MELEE! Of course! As with the last two years, we're
heading into the woods! For those of you going to Pennsic, a chance to practice
melee woods fighting before the big battle.

As in the previous two years, I have the honor of being the RMiC. However, this
year my household has asked me to fight in the 10 man melee tournament on
Saturday (actually, they told me I was doing it one way or the other. lol)
Therefore, I will require the assistance of other marshals while the tournament
is running. I believe my constable Lady Rachel will be there, but anyone who
can lend a hand would be greatly appreciated.

As with every year, I look forward to this great event. I hope to see you all
there!!

Yours In Service,

Lord Kurushima Yoshiatsu (Yoshi)

Just a reminder that I am offering a hands-on class to make rapier gorgets
at FOOL. The class cost is $25, and you will finish with a usable gorget
(and if you have not finished, the equipment will be available for you to
keep working over the weekend to finish it). The gorget will be in
aluminum, and a picture is in the E-Raier photos:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/E_Rapier/photos/album/1283223224/pic/1046390901/vi\
ew?picmode=&mode=tn&order=ordinal&start=21&count=20&dir=asc

The class is on Sunday from 9-12 AM.

Class size is limited, so pre-reg is advised if you want to do it. Tadc &
Beathan, you are both already on the list.

Greetings!

I have two items of note for the rapier community. First, I will be teaching
a class on Cut & Thrust rapier, Italian style a Fruits of Our Labour
(http://fool.lilleypress.com/). The class is at 9 am on the Saturday of the
event. Yes, I know it's brutally early but I will be there and if you have
any interest in pursuing C&T, this would be a good place to start. No extra
gear is required for the drill part of the class but the more advanced parts
of the class will require the minimum C&T gear (i.e. solid protection for
the back of the head and a minimum of padded elbows, though I recommend
solid).

Secondly, Baron Hoskuld and I will be running a longsword only practice
starting on Sunday, May 8th at the University of Guelph. The class will be
held in room 103 of the University Centre from 10 am to 12 pm. If people
wish to continue and the weather is good, we can take it outside after 12.
It is an SCA practice with SCA armour requirements. Again, this is a
practice for the use longsword so there will not be a regular rapier
component. It will be run in accordance with the rules and armour standards
for Cut & Thrust.

Please e-mail me if you have any questions.

Yours in Service

At coronation the rapier list has been charged with the task of determing two
champions, to be selected by tournment. Her Highness encourages all combatants,
who will be travelling to Pennsic, to participate and vie for the opportunity to
be a Rapier Champion for Ealdormere. Recognition is to be awarded to both the
winner and the other finalist, who will act as a co-champion, supporting the
Kingdom's honour on the battlefield, in court, and wheresoever their duty calls.

The tournament formats:

BEAR PIT TOURNAMENT TO DETERMINE CHAMPIONS
Those who identify themselves as going to Pennsic and vieing for the position as
Champion, to the MIC (Jocelyn) will participate in a bear-pit style tourny for
the duration of the afternoon, taking on all commers. Each win is to be
reported to the MIC (Jocelyn), who will talley up the totals and present them
to their Hignesses for consideration.

AND FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT TOURNAMENT...

...You like a little adversity in your game yes?

Ever wonder what it would be like to fight from horse back?..
..then this tournament is for you...double elimination format..each combatant
must find a team partener they trust to steer the wooden horse they will be
mounted on as they fight, and vice versa. Further rules to be explained on site(
I can't give away everything).

Note, this is a single rapier tourney only, as you have to hold the reigns in
one hand to control the horse and fight with the other hand.

DISCLAIMER WARNING, by entering this tourney and climing on to the horse you
have accepted the possiblity of falling off the horse and causing yourself bodiy
harm.

See you all there

Hi all, throwing this out there in the hopes that fencing may turn up.

I am giving a paper at the University of Waterloo on the weekend of the 6th
and 7th of May. I then have to make my way back east to Kingston. Of
course, I'm not in a big hurry, and will have my swords and gear with me for
the trip. Hoskuld and Eyrny have been kind enough to provide me crash
spance, but I have to pay for it by my presence at a Rapier practice there
on Thursday.

So I am throwing out there that if there are Rapier practices between KW and
the east side of TO in the early part of the week (til Wednesday night at
the outside) after the 7th, and if a couch can be provided I'm more than
willing to show up and provide an extra target. I can even expound
ceaselessly on Giganti too if so desired.

So maybe something can happen? Throwing the idea out there.

Ta

Aaron./Archibald
