ELCA-L is a forum for the discussion of issues relevant to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. We expect to have conversations around matters of the Christian faith and traditions, religious belief, theology and other matters of interest to the church and its members. We welcome participation from members of denominations with whom we are in ecumenical dialogue, members of other Lutheran bodies, and other interested parties. While we encourage discussion across a broad spectrum, we actively discourage the use of this list as a forum for Lutheran Wars, denominational posturing, or other acrimonious activities.

Listmembers have developed the following agreements to govern our life together.

ELCA-L AGREEMENTS
In joining this list I agree to:
+ Sign my name to every post. Listowners/moderators will also add their title when posting in an official capacity.
+ Avoid personal attacks (argumentum ad hominem: attacking the person rather than the argument or idea).
+ Strive to understand the arguments and experiences of others, to construe others' statements with charity, and to seek clarification before reaction.
+ Not make sweeping generalizations about the Christian faith of other persons or about entire denominations.
+ Not put other list members’ names in the Subject of messages.
+ Hold each other accountable to these agreements. Accountability is the responsibility of all members of the list, but the list moderators may limit posting privileges of members who do not keep these agreements.
