DogPEA is a group of Austin residents who will use, support and/or maintain off-leash areas for dogs in East Austin.
DogPEA is working with the Austin Parks Foundation and the city Parks & Rec Dept. to develop new off-leash areas on the east side. The success of this effort depends on community support, so let's get this group's membership up to represent the actual number of people already using east Austin parks for their dogs.
There are 12 legal off-leash areas in Austin, but none in East Central Austin (only two east of I-35, far north and far south). East Central is growing fast and services need to keep up with housing development and population growth. More neighborhood parks will reduce cross-town traffic and relieve the impact on popular off-leash areas like Redbud and Auditorium Shores. The public parks and green space in East Austin are relatively under-used.
This Yahoo group can also be a contact point for "adopt-a-park" volunteers for the tentative ROSEWOOD OFF-LEASH area.
