"Young people have always played a key role in social movements, " said UFW 1st
Vice-President Irv Hershenbaum - and event speaker. "This conference kicks off
the UFW's summer effort to educate youth and get them involved with taking
action for farm workers rights."
WE HAVE GOT SOME WORK TO DO THIS SUMMER.
http://www.ufwaction.org
Cesar Chavez fought for farm workers. He stood up for those whose labor fed the
world. He believed that everyday Americans would support his efforts to improve
working conditions for farm workers.
You can help continue his work by registering for the Youth and Young Adults
Conference on Farm Worker Rights. Also, please tell any young people you know
about this FREE conference.
The UFW, the NFWM and La Placita Church are teaming up together to host a very
special farm worker youth conference. The conference will feature community
leaders and guest speakers, educational workshops and an action plan to support
farm workers.
Hosted by La Placita Church located at 535 N Main St., Los Angeles, CA 90012
(close to Union Station and Olvera Street) the conference will begin at 10:00am
and end at 4:30pm. Lunch will be provided to pre-registered participants.
Conference host - and long time farm worker rights activist - Fr. Richard
Estrada, is hoping this event will make more young adults aware of the
conditions the people who put food on our table face. "It's a tragedy that in
2009, many farm workers work in dangerous working conditions, often without
water and shade. The July 9th conference date commemorates the one-year
anniversary of the heat death of grape worker Audon Felix - one of 6 farm
workers who suffered heat related deaths last summer. One of the event speakers
will be his niece, Alma Felix.
GET INVOLVED. On July 9, become part of the solution by attending this
conference. You can learn about the issues, get motivated and to help put an
end to needless farm worker injustices.
BECOME PART OF THE SOLUTION BY REGISTERING FOR THIS FREE CONFERENCE.
