Description

Welcome to the discussion forum where we can talk about the regular army of Germany that served during WW2. "Die Wehrmacht'.

Within the English speaking world the German side of WW2 is so often never really heard. So many people of course just don't want to even know and just accept willingly what the Allied historians have conjured up and then insisted upon as the truth.

The actual number of soldiers who served in the Wehrmacht during its existence from 1935 until 1945 is believed to approach 18.2 million. This figure was put forward by German historian Rüdiger Overman and represents the total number of people who ever served in the Wehrmacht, and not the force strength of the Wehrmacht at any such point in time.

About 2.3 million Wehrmacht soldiers were officially listed as killed in action during WW2,(approx 500,000 died from non-combat causes).

2 million are listed as missing in action and unaccounted for after WW2.

Over a million were POW deaths, (The worst of the Rhine meadow death camps were run by the US & French military). Further mass POW deaths included those in primarily Soviet Union Gulag camp captivity .

By wars end approximately 11 million were captured by the Allies.

So who were they? These common soldiers of Deutschland. From the professional soldiers to the masses of conscripts that wore the famous uniforms and fought so bravely against absolutely overwhelming odds and in all kinds of weather conditions.

Considering all the demonization of the Third Reich by Allied historians since 1945! why is there today in so many western countries such a strong interest in Wehrmacht reenactment groups?
