Desi Adoptees United (DAU) is an Indian adult adoptee group for those who live in the United States and were adopted from India.
Our Mission: To reconnect to our cultural heritage, provide a place to belong, foster the development of identity and support each other through our life passages.
Our Vision: To facilitate connections among South Asian Indian adoptees through the exploration of our shared adoption journey.
Our History: This group began informally in 2004 under the direction of the President and Founder, Lata, who brought together a group of four Indian adult adoptees who resided in and around New York City. In 2005 the group met again in New York and doubled in size with adoptees from other parts of the United States participating. At the end of 2005, Desi Adoptees United established their group name. In 2006, Lata asked Reena and Kripa to join her in leading the group as Vice President's and the mission, vision and logo was established, along with the creation of a yahoo forum, making the organization more formalized. The group held its 3rd annual gathering in Chicago 2006 with adoptees participating from nine different states.
Our Yahoo Groups: This yahoo group is created by and for Indian adult adoptees (18 and older), who reside in the United States, to have their own safe space to share and have their voices heard around adoption other important issues in our lives. The purpose of the forum is to exchange ideas, talk about upcoming meetings and serve as supportive network for other Indian adoptees residing in the United States.
