Suggested dress for this dance Dress to Impress, comfortable and casual dance attire.  Please bring and wear dance shoes to help preserve the floor.  The Dance Bash Cost is $10 per person for Turnverein members, $15 for non-members, cash or checks, only.

We are working on a project to raise funds for the Turnverein Cultural Center by orchestrating a dance event around the theme of the television show "So You Think You Can Dance." Couples and teachers will be recruited to practice routines in assigned (drawn from a hat) style of dance. We need volunteers from all the clubs to help plan this event. ELECTRICAL UPGRADE (by Richard Parker)

The electrical upgrade has begun. The ceiling in the basement has been removed as the first part of the construction. Rod Hurtado had a large crew to help with this and we are very pleased with this start and it was completed in a day and ½. The dance floor seems to be on top of 2x4's over subfloor and then over 2x12 floor joists.  Our existing wiring goes through the 2x4's and not the 2x12's and if it presents a problem, that is for the electrician's to work out. Our electrical contractor did another walkthrough to view this. We will receive what should be the final changes in the engineer's plans  and will submit these changes to Colorado Historic for approval. If approved, these plans will be taken to the city for the building permit. Please pardon the mess while we complete this project.

SHOE ISSUES

We have noticed hundreds of small holes in the dance floor. These are mostly likely the result of high heel shoes that have missing or worn-out heel tips. Please make sure you check and maintain your shoes. It costs $3000 - $4000 every time we have the floor refinished.

NEW CHAIRS—WELL, NEW TO US (by Dan Beck)

We found an individual who had 1,200 chairs for sale that probably came from a hotel. Thanks to William Murakami and Max we now have 300 of them at the Turnverein at a cost of about $4.25.  Although used, they look much better and are a significant improvement over our folding chairs, and should last us for quite some time. The Board will be disposing of most of the folding chairs, so if your organization or a member needs some of these, please contact a Board member or Max.

MEMBERSHIP

Membership dues will be pro-rated October 1st for the last quarter of the year.  Also remember that all memberships expire December 31st, no matter when during the year members joined or renewed.  The October 1st dues amounts are:

$19 single membership

$15 student/senior (student with ID or senior age 65 or older)

$36 dual (two persons in the same household)

$44 family (more than two persons in a household)

Comedy Night Fundraiser for the Turnverein Cultural Center

Comedy Show featuring Deacon Gray-- Comedy Works headliner and winner of the Great American Comedy Festival will take place Saturday, Sept 12 at 9:00 pm in the basements at the  Turnverein. Several additional local comics will also be featured.  The event will take place in conjunction with a ballroom dance bash that begins at 7 pm.  Everyone is welcome.

LOCK UP YOUR PERSONAL BELONGINGS
We had an incident at the salsa social on Wednesday night. A purse and a shoe bag were stolen from the bar area during the dance lesson (around 8 pm).  We did recover the purse in the dumpster behind the building later in the evening. The only thing not recovered was the person's car keys. We also found the shoe bag and shoes in the parking lot. Please lock your belonging in the trunk of your car.

UPDATED WEBSITE

The TCC website has a new look.  A team of volunteers has been working on this for a very long time and we would like to recognize and thank them for their hard work and continued commitment to this project.

• Delmer Johnson (Tango and RMSDC) developed the original site in 2001 and solely maintained the site for years. Delmer helped acquire install the new software for the site and he continues to have a lead role as a site administrator.
• John McClure (Ballroom) has done much of the coding and back end work. He continues to work on updates and at making the site more user friendly and he will also be working on site optimization strategies.
• Debbie Firestone (Ballroom) volunteered to learn how to use and  maintain the content management system.
• Bill Maddick (Ballroom) provided photos from all of the groups. He spent countless hours at the Turn with his camera.
• Sandra Genova (Salsa) Content writing, content management, overall project management. Sandi will continue to manage content for the site.

COMEDY SHOW September 12

Comedy Fundraiser and Dance Bash the basement on Sept 12 at 9:00 pm. The comedy show features Deacon Gray and several other local comedians. The comedy event will take place in conjunction with the September Dance Bash. Attend one or both events. Dance Bash begins at 7 pm.

Tickets for the comedy show and dance bash will be available next week from Marina when the bar is open and from Max. Tickets will also be available at the door (checks and cash).

• Cost: $10 members $15 non-member (Comedy Show or Dance Bash)
• Cost: $15 members $20 non-members (to attend both events)

Community Photography Show and Silent Auction

 This is the second juried art show sponsored by the Turnverein Cultural Center. The medium for the show is photography and we are encouraging Turnverein members and area artists to participate. Participants are also being asked to consider donating at least one piece for a silent auction that will help raise money for future art projects. There is no formal theme for this show but we are offering ideas:

- Fun at the Turnverein—this might include candid shots, dance
   shots, etc.
- Transitions in Time—Moving from Fall to Winter
- Unique vacation adventures

Saturday October 10— Photography Show 
from 2-6 pm followed by a Dance Bash from 7—11 pm. 
Art will remain through November 7, 2009
Bids for Silent Auction items accepted through November 7.

DJ Carolyn Cattani will play the dance music, a mix of All Ballroom Dances (There are over 2,500 ballroom selections in the music library), as well as Salsa, Argentine Tango, Lindy/Swing, Hustle, and West Coast Swing and requests.

Suggested dress for this dance is dress to impress, comfortable dance attire.  The ladies are always elegant so gentlemen keep this in mind when selecting your attire.  Please bring and wear dance shoes to help preserve the newly refinished floor.  The Dance Cost is $10 per person for Turnverein members, $15 for Turnverein non-members, cash or checks, only. 

Renew or Join the Turnverein for 2009 and admission is FREE.   2009 Pro-rated Membership Rates: $29 single; $54 dual; $66 family; $20 student/senior (Cash or Check, ONLY).  Your membership fee helps support and maintains this beautiful dance venue! ALSO, we will have a trunk sale.  Bring your gently used dance shoes and clothes that you would like to sell.

Dance Admission price includes dance lesson, dancing, outstanding refreshments, and cash bar.
