This Yahoo Group is the official "bulletin board" for members of the Deep River Sangha, a Community of Mindful Living practicing weekly sitting and walking meditation in the tradition of Vietnamese Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hanh.
Mindfulness is the energy of being aware and awake to the present moment. It is the continuous practice of touching life deeply in every moment of daily life. To be mindful is to be truly alive, present and at one with those around you and with what you are doing.
Through regular practice, we become aware of the thoughts, speech and actions that can lead to unnecessary suffering. We also nourish the roots of loving kindness, compassion, and understanding. In this way, we nurture and develop the enlightened "Buddha nature" that exists in each of us. Regular meditation practice also has other benefits, including reduction of stress and tension, that promote our well-being.
Visitors to our weekly practice are welcome, regardless of experience level or religious affiliation. In addition to meditation practice, there is often dharma discussion and shared readings. There is no charge to attend, although the practice of "dana" or generosity is accepted with gratitude. By far your most valuable contribution to our community is your mindful presence.
We meet on Sunday afternoons from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Unitarian-Universalist Church of Greensboro, 5603 Hilltop Road, Jamestown, North Carolina. Changes to this schedule and notices of special events such as retreats are posted on this website in the calendar section, and will be emailed to you if you have chosen that option.
Membership in our Yahoo Group is restricted to prevent spam (and other forms of unmindful speech). If you would like to join, please visit one of our regular practices.
