This workshop will act as a medium for learning, sharing and discussing
appropriate educational signs for sports. The focus will include technical
signs, use of classifiers, fingerspelling techniques and some hands-on
experience practice. The workshop will cover signs for various sports
including, but not limited to, football, baseball, basketball, wrestling,
volleyball, golf, tennis and track & field.



LANGUAGE POLICY:

Workshop presented in ASL. Interpreters will not be provided.

Fred Farrior, born deaf, holds a BA from the Oregon College of Education and
an MA from Western Oregon University. He taught at the Oregon School for
the Deaf for 28 years until his retirement in 2003. He has taught ASL
classes at WOU (18 years), South Salem High School (7 years), and Linfield
College (10 years), as well as through Cyber School (ASL online courses)
with the Lane Regional Program. Fred has served as an ASL Conference
speaker, the Proficiency-based Admission Standards System (PASS) assessor
for ASL, and as a Board member of the Confederation in Oregon for Language
Teaching (COFLT). He was instrumental in convincing the Oregon Board of
Education to accept ASL as a second language in the Oregon's public schools
and in working with the Oregon Legislative when it passed legislation
supporting ASL in 1995.
