Darvak Persian Music Ensemble in San Diego California.
We are a group of musicians who've been playing Persian music in San Diego since 1985. Our goal, in addition to friendship, crossing cultural bridges, learning the music, and having fun playing music, is to make Persian music accessible to young and non-Persian audiences.
We are involved in teaching Persian music, both with local teachers and visting luminaries such as Ostad M.R. Lotfi and Dr. Hossein Omoumi.
We help bring world-class music events to San Diego, together with our partner organizations the Center for World Music and the Persian Cultural Center.
Darvak - literally "tree frog" - is the title of a poem by the father of modern Persian poetry, Nima Ushij. Set to music by M.R. Lotfi and sung by M.R. Shajarian in 1977, it remains a landmark in modern Persian music.
The Darvak logo was designed by Farzaneh Foroughi in 2003. See some photos here.
