Dear Daruma friends,
A friend from Norway has asked about Takeda Shingen and "these special
Daruma dolls".
There are a lot of pictures in my article, so better read the full story
there.
This is also interesting for the JADE friends and at the end something about
woodblocks for Bette, Origa and others.

Kooshuu is the old name of Yamanashi Province. Takeda Shingen was a warlord
there during turbulent times before the Edo Bakufu government was formed. Up
to our times he is honored with this Daruma Doll.
He has the eyes painted in a special way below the eyebrows so when you put
him high up on the Gods Shelf in the home (kamidana) he will look down on
you and grant your wishes (shitami Daruma).
The dolls are also called ¡ÈShitami Daruma¡É or ¡ÈYokozawa
Daruma¡É
corresponding to the villages where they are made.

Oyako-Daruma
Another speciality from former Kooshuu province are dolls with Daruma
holding a child-Daruma on his lap (Oyako-Daruma from Yamanashi)
The white Daruma was made to protect the silk industry which was flourishing
in Yamanashi area during the Edo period.
Other explanations say the white Daruma was made to protect the Cotton
planted in this area.
