This group’s for the Education of Divorced/Single Fathers on their rights AND responsibilities to children. President Obama’s Father’s Day address was on divorced and single fathers needing to be more involved with their children. But, a study conducted under the Clinton Admin. showed the issue is more denial, than refusal, of active involvement. The study’s goal was to prove that fathers with court ordered parenting rights (visitation), were voluntarily uninvolved with their children. The 50 state study, conducted by the U.S. Dept. of Health & Human Services, was titled “The Survey of Absentee Parents”. From a sampling of public court records in each state, the fathers were interviewed on their contact with the children. A preliminary summary was issued on the results of the first five states, to be released in time for Father’s Day. That announcement never came. Preliminary results showed that within 6 months of the issuance of court orders, 60% of the fathers were denied access to their children. After five years, they lost all contact. The funding for the rest of the study was discontinued. There’s hundreds of fathers groups addressing the politics of fathers rights, but with the exception of Joint Legal Custody, the creation of the late James Cook (Joint Custody Assc.), little else has been achieved. And, it was achieved as a result of growing numbers of favorable rulings by judges who were convinced, based on the evidence before them. This is the importance of educating fathers, FOR KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!! If you’ve come here simply to get out of paying child support, YOU’RE NOT WELCOME. In these economic times, with 80% of layoffs being men, fathers need to learn how to financially survive, so that they can remain involved, especially when it comes to forcing the issue through the courts.
