Greetings from Kate Donaghue
Dear Democrats,

Caucus season kicks off on Saturday! If you have never been to a caucus before, consider attending. It is a great way to meet Democrats in your community. Encourage friends to attend their local caucuses. The list is here:
http://www.massdems.org/caucus/

A couple of groups are hosting post caucus gatherings. Check out the events in Ashland and Milford. If you are near either of those locations, consider an informal gathering right after your caucus, even if it is just two or three people.

This Sunday, Central Massachusetts Democrats are invited to a free buffet brunch followed by signature gathering to kickoff the 2012 Democratic campaigns with a bang! With races for President, U.S. Senate, Congress, State Senate and State House of Representatives all in play, 2012 will be a critical year for Central Massachusetts and around the Commonwealth. To make sure Democrats are ready, please join us for brunch and a Day of Action!

Check the calendar below for details on all of the events that I mentioned.

Democratically yours,

Kate Donaghue

Ideas for Committees - Publicize the Results of Your Caucus
Let people know that the Democratic Party is alive an well in your town. Increase the visibility of your delegates and you Democratic Committee. When you elect delegates, let people know about it. The more names that are out there associated with the Democratic Party, the more likely it is that you will be contacted. Potential members are more likely to contact people that they know. Publicize the results in your local papers, including online papers. When Democratic Committees ask what they should be doing, Party Chair John Walsh likes to say, "Do something and tell people about it." Click here for a template press release.

You Have to Laugh Occasionally
In the strongest sign that the economy is improving, Republicans have started saying Obama wasn't born here again.
Most of the job-killing Obama has done has been in al-Qaeda.
Komen did such a 180 I find it hard to believe Mitt Romney wasn't somehow involved.

Submitting Events
Please send us your Democratic events. We want to publicize what you are doing. We usually go to press on Friday AM, so make sure you send your info no later than Thursday evening to get into that week's issue.
1) Use subject line "For the Dispatch"
2) Put your event information in text format in the body of the email. Please include start time, end time (if any), location (with street address for GPS), event description (it's good to mention food/drink/donations/RSVP), and a link to more info.
3) Send to DDemDispatch-owner@yahoogroups.com

Note that unlike some other Yahoo groups, replies and other comments sent to us at ddemdispatch-owner@yahoogroups.com come only to us and are not published.

The Democratic Dispatch is a more or less weekly e-mail newsletter for Democratic events across the state. Your editors are Kate Donaghue and Matt Shear. Pace Willisson handles the tech stuff and "Dispatch Team" members include Pat Mosca and others. We edit this as volunteers as our way of promoting the Democratic Party, Democratic candidates and the Democratic Platform. The positions represented in the regular "Greetings from Kate" or "Greetings from Matt" reflect our personal positions, and not those of the Democratic Party.

You are also welcome to send us appropriate jokes. We look for jokes that are funny, political, topical, and highlight the absurdities of our political opponents. Please remember that despite our editorial independence the joke will inevitably reflect on the Democratic party, so while we appreciate all of the submissions, there are some that I will keep in my "censored jokes" file.

Thanks! Kate Donaghue (and Matt Shear)

Ideas for Committees - Sample Press Release
The Communications Sub-Committee, in conjunction with the MDP, provides the "press release of the month" to give local committees a starting point for publicizing your events. You are encouraged to quote local people who are enthusiastic about the Party.

The sentence, "In addition, [NAMES and TITLES] will serve as ex officio delegates." would read "In addition, Joe Smith, Anytown Democratic Town Committee Chair and Kate Donaghue, Democratic State Committee member, will serve as ex officio delegates." Include both delegates and alternates in your press release. List all ex officio delegates, including elected officials. Use the last paragraph to include general information about your committee. Include local contact information if you have it. If you meet on a regular basis, like the third Tuesday of the month, say so. If you don't meet on a regular date, you can say, "The Anytown Democrats meet four times per year. Contact xxx at xxx-xxx-xxxx for more information or to be added to the mailing list."

Try to get your press releases distributed quickly. If time gets away from you, omit the date and change the language to read "Democrats in Anytown elected delegates to the Massachusetts Democratic Party’s 2012 endorsing convention in Springfield this June at a recent caucus."
