Since the symptoms occured 10 hours after surfacing and I did not recognise them
at first, I was taken into the hyperbaric chamber 20 hours after surfacing.
Since november 19th I have been suffering daily from burning pain in my spinal
chord and in my chest and a continuous high pithced sound in my ears. As a
result I have problems getting to sleep. the pain has been around for 5 months
now. Some docters tell me that these nerves in the back take time to heal (6 to
12 months), others tell me that after 6 months there is not a lot of hope for
recovery. Does any of you have experience with these types of medical problems
that persist for such a long time?

Hello Hans,
Not exactly the same situation, but in some ways, similar:
I had a type 2 "hit" in Aug. of 2004. My symptoms (inability to stand walk, or
urinate)presented sooner after surfacing than yours did, and I got into a
chamber approximately 8 hours post dive.
After 6 chamber "rides", the most acute symptoms were resolved, and only the
"residual" symptoms- fatigue, and parasthesia(?) (the pins and needles feeling
in my feet/lower legs)- remained. I, too, was told that the symptoms could last
"for months, for years, or forever".
While I had minimal residual pain, the other residual symptoms continued,
unabated,"24/7" for almost 4 months, then gradually lessened in severity, so
that after approximately 7 months they were not noticeable.
Hopefully, your symptoms will be gone shortly.
Good luck,
Mike
