Welcome. This list is for events and topics of interest to Pagans in the DC, northern VA, and MD areas. Modern Paganism is a family of post-Christian religions which draw inspiration from pre-Christian symbolism and have been influenced to some degree by the Wiccan revival.
Please feel free to post information about any events, groups, or happenings of interest to Pagans in this area. Merchants of Pagan-oriented businesses are welcome to post short and factual announcements of the merchandise they carry (but not too often please).
This list is essentially unmoderated. The list owner is a free speech fanatic who will not censor posts with the slightest relevance to the topic. (Ads for Viagra, "hot stocks" and body-part-enlargement do get deleted.)
Most people on this list would like to see the following behavior:
- No flaming - this includes any personal attacks, judgements on character, and general expression of anger at other members of the list. That doesn't mean you can't disagree with a post, but stick to issues, not personalities.
- No flooding - please limit yourself to four posts per person per day - this helps hold down volume.
- No chain mail or petitions - No postings requesting the reader to forward to everyone else. Do not post virus warnings, hoaxes or urban legends. Check out your facts first.
If you violate these rules, some people will probably respond with much-deserved ridicule, and other people will adjust their email rules to delete your posts unread. Democracy in action!
If you see a post that violates these rules, your first option is to ignore it -- you MUST have better things to do with your life than get angry over some idiot you've never even met. If that doesn't work, try to respond on the issues. Telling the idiot what an idiot s/he is really won't do any do good.
