The hat is actually two pieces - the pointy bit is a small piece of ordinary
paper rolled into a rough cone shape and then glued to the head of the figure.
The brim is piece of thin card cut into a disk about 1cm across. I then
cut out the center of the disk and slide it over the pointy bit until it
rested at the base of the cone. I applied several layers of white glue
to fill in gaps and give the hat a little strength. After the glue dried,
I trimmed the brim a bit and cut the point bit down a little to make it
look less stiff :-)

Hi Scott,
Cool, I see you've posted your photos! Well done!

Oh cool, I like the centaur idea! It would be fun to make a whole
army of greek mythological beasts for wargaming. Clash of the
Titans!

They look good, the centaur has made me think about what could be
done with the Revell Celt chieftain/hat Numidian Horses or may be
some of the Nexus Greeks for a proper Age of Heros centaur.
Just wanted to take a moment and say hello. My name is John Miller-
Wells. I've been collecting minis for about twenty years. I started
out with a box of Airfix Romans when I was twelve, moved on to 25mm
fantasy when I got into D&D in high school, then to 15mm Napoleonics
and 6mm WWII and SciFi in college, back to 25mm/28mm fantasy after
college, and then I found Nick's page a year or so ago, and with
several boxes reissued Airfix Romans and Britons, I came back to
where I started. So now I split my collecting resources between
Hat/Italeri ancients, the occasional 28mm from Reaper, and 54mm ECW
and late medieval.
I posted a rather poor photo of my very first 20mm plastic
conversions - a wizard and a centaur in the files section. The
wizard started out as one of the warriors riding the chariots in the
Britons set, his hat and cloak are paper. The centaur is the fusion
of an Esci barbarian and an Italeri horse. I hope to have better
images of these and other conversions soon. Comments and criticisms
much appreciated

I said on my previous posting that I'd detail what I did to move the
gate on the Zvezda fortress, well this is it.
The problem is that the gate is on the outside, the hinge s are
outside of the fortress. Not abig deal unless you want to stop people
getting in, then it is virtually impossible to stop the attackers
just lifting the gate of its exposed hinges. What we in the trade
call 'a bad thing'.
What I did was as follows
Cut away from the Outer section of the wall the two logs with the
hinge sockets moulded onto them, set them aside.
Turning to the two inner sections of log wall I cut away the
corresponding logs from the inner sections. It is important not to
cut away the logs from the outside ends of the section as they
contain the socket for the joining lugs and that would prevent the
gate module from joining onto other sections.
I then glued the gate up as it should be but did not add the header
piece, or lintle, to the inside section. And once everything was
glued and set up I filed the raw join flat, especially from where I
had removed the two logs on either side of the gate.
I used 5mm square section styrene tube - I couldn't get hold of solid
stock, so used the sqaure section tube - and replaced the two
sections of logs that I had removed with lengths of this square tube,
and placed them so that they were flush with the outside edge. I also
added a new header piece to the inside wall from the same tube. This
actually fits quite nicely between the brackets of the walkway so you
can't actually it is square tube.
Lastly I glued the sections of log with the door mounting lugs onto
the square section tube, on the INSIDE of the gate.
The result is, I feel, a more imposing gateway, and it is more
defensible. It also takes less time to do than it does to write it
out, One more thing I did do was shave a bit off the gates to get
them to fit better in the gate way and open and close better.

I mailed revell, asking when they where planning to rerelease thier
historical 1/72 figures.
The reply below....
( note the phrase "..increase the requests.." ..Take a hint guys...)
"Bekemeier, Holger" <HBekemeier@...>
Dear Cyril,
thanks for your mail and your interest at our products.
I am sorry at the moment there are no plans to re-introduce these
items.
It is possible that we will do so in a few years.
They were deleted from the range, because the number of sales were
going
down, so we are waiting several years to increase the requests to
introduce it again.
Best regards
Holger Bekemeier
Hi Andy - love the animation of the phalangite, that is SO cool.
Right I got my paws on two of the elements of the Zvezda fort today.
Here in the UK the Fort will retail at £12.99 - sorry chaps you'll
need to work that one out for yourselves.
The material I have seen today says that there will be four wall
sections, four towers and two gate sections in the basic boxed set.
Now based on the prices of the individual components that is £20
worth of stuff for about £13. The individual elements - according to
the prices in various trade catalogues and what I actually paid
today - suggest that the tower wall section and gateway will each
cost £1.99.
And today I got hold of a gate way and a wall section, I would have
bought more but there was nothing else in stock. Aparently they have
sold out really quick.
The wall first.
The section is 12cm long, 7cm high and the walkway is 4.6cm off the
ground. The walkway is just under 2cm wide so would take a lot of
bases including the famour 4BD stands. The wall section comes in
four pieces as you will have seen from the scans of the sprues on
various sites, an outer or facing section, an inner lower section the
walkway and the upper inner section.
Goes together easily enough and is quite substantial.
The gateway is more complicated - same basic overall stats - but with
a double-doored gate in the middle 3.9cm to the lintle and 4.2cm wide.
Both the wall and the gatesection have a ladder with them long enough
to go to the top of the wall, but that could be cut short and fitted
to the inside for defenders to use.
So the good points - if these become widely available they will
provide a cheap and easily converted source for fortifications,
useable from the late 5thC through to the end of the 15thC, in most
of eastern Europe, as my club is talking about a campaign game they
may just get used in that. They're sturdy and easily put together
using nylon stubs that fit into slots on the edges which provide a
secure join.
The bad points.
THE GATEWAY OPENS OUTWARDS!!!!
Who ever designed this was made big one there. However by careful
cutting the plastic and using a couple of lengths of square section
styrene, I was able to reverse the lugs on the gateway so it now
opens inwards and it has made the gate more imposing. When I get some
more time soon I'll post the precise procedure.
The other thing is that the sections have too little base area. They
are going to be difficult to glue to bases unless you incorporate
some sort of support, such as anciliary builing like the stables from
the Airfix milefort or the farm sheds from the la Haye Saint.
Overall because these bad points are easily corrected I'd say this is
a good thing to have in your collection especially as you are not
forced to have the traditional four cornered fortress but could make
it to what ever shape you wish.
the packaging also contains some details and components from the "Age
of battles" games system - which is why the figures illustrated on
one publicity release appear to be on movement trays.
One of the catalogues I have seen has listed a stone-built castle,
and individual components the same as the wooden fortress. It just
keeps getting better and better.
Hello all. We 1/72 plastic people certainly are a rare breed, aren't
we. Anyway, hello, my name is Andy, and I am mostly a collector
of ancients, particularly romans. My collection is mostly 1/32
scale plastic because up till now I have only been a collector and
I like that size because they are fun to paint and display. Now, I
am interested in wargaming, so I have turned to 1/72 figres. I am
currently painting an army of early imperial romans. I bought
some Atlantic egyptians too. Does anyone know of figures i
could use as nubians? Maybe, Hat numidians would work, but
there are only 2 poses of those. FInally, I have a website that
provides historical resourses (uniforms, illustrations, battle
descriptions, etc.) Let me know what you think.

Hat have posted 3 more masters for set 6001.
Lutzow Freikorps.
He has mentioned they are going to do 6 figs of 4 poses per sprue,
with 24 figs per box for the wargamer sets.

Sorry to disappoint you but no. Only the polish infantry masters and
the Napoleonic camp life set.
Never heard of the company before so I found it worth to mention its
existence.

Hello,
I'm kind of new, though I had watched the conversations on the old
site and even joined in once. I noticed a couple posts about Najemo
and scans of Strelets. Unfortunately, since I am in the United States,
I can't get access to the site. I am not even allowed to register
because he doesn't have a way to verify IP addresses yet. Bummer. Are
there pictures of anything besides the French Camp and the masters to
the Polish Infantries (you can see some of theat for free on Komart's
site). If so, how do they look?
Thanks,
Arlin
John has been busy. And has added several bookmaks to the list page.
Feel free to add your favourites as well.
I have created some folders and moved them about a bit.
Cheers,
Stan.
Glad to see you all here, now I can post the pics more easily, I hope
to have some scans to post here - when I've beaten my scanner into
submission again.

hello everybody
I play MoA ancients only. DBA sometimes for a short game.
I have to restrict myself to ancients now, because there are so many
armies to paint and books to read in this area alone. wish I had more
time to do medieval or ACW.
I do play other games in other areas, board games. presently I play
only AH`s hannibal and GMT's paths of glory via
warhorsesim.com a truely wonderful site (and free!).
anyone ready for a game send me a mail.
wish I had a digital camera to add some pictures of the gaul army I am
doing right now. have 35 infantry stands finished and work hard to
reach 60.
cheers

Hi, I uploaded some painted plastic pics in the files section.
What does DBLCHM stand for? Well I am glad that this egroup has been
set up. I always wanted to post about more than just my Ancient and
Medieval armies. My ACW troops are being completed to ue with PK
Hallowed Ground. I originally had a bunch mounted for VnB. Now they
are mounted on 2"x1" stands (3 per stand). Arty will be 2"x2" and Cav
probably 1"x2". I may also try out ACWMaster a variant of Warmaster.
I know, I know but I tried out the Ancients variant and was pretty
pleased with it.
What rules and figs do other folks paint and play? I do Acw, Naps,
Ancients, Medievals, WW1, WW2, SYW, AWI, Colonials, Vietnam, Samurai
and Sci-fi in 20mm plastic (Buck Rogers figures from the board game).
It's GREAT to be aboard!
