Hello and Welcome to all New Zealand and Overseas Roller Keepers;.
Yes we do have Roller Canaries here in New Zealand.
Rollers are considered by many to be the finest "Canary of Song", the "opera singer" of the canary world.
The song of the roller canary is made up of rolls and tours.
Rolls are continuous and flow.
Tours are discontinuous and beat.
There are 12 song passages the roller may sing and be scored on.
The main aims are hollow and deep tours, audible and pure tones.
The roller sings with a closed beak, he sings from the throat.
A score sheet may be viewed in the pictures menu under song description.
You will see the names of the different song tours and the points that may be awarded for them.
Click on the thumbnails to see the pictures enlarged.
In New Zealand we follow the British "one hundred point system".
Scores of 60 to 70 are possible for good birds.
Our birds do not usually sing Schockel or Deep Bubbling Water Tour.
Having said that Schockel is not heard often in New Zealand.
I have heard Schockel over the years sung by a few of my birds.
The Schockel Tour appears then dissapears usually replaced by a Low Hollow Bell Tour as the youngsters matured in song.

I hope you all enjoy the site.
Within this site there song files and video footage of members Roller canaries singing, with many pictures to see, Roller Song explainations about the Rolls and Tours the Roller Canary can sing, these are held in the picture album .
