Iran Ends Talks with IAEA Experts
Tehran, February 22 (Prensa Latina) Iran on Wednesday completed the second round
of talks with experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), while
its supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, pledged to break the authority of
Western powers that depend on nuclear weapons.
Ali Asghar Soltanieh, permanent representative of the Islamic Republic at the
IAEA, told IRNA news agency that the talks with the IAEA delegation, headed by
Herman Nackaerts, will continue in the future.
Nackaerts, the IAEA deputy director general and head of the Department of
Safeguards, visited Tehran on Monday to review "sensitive issues" on the
domestic nuclear program, a work he also did in late January.
Soltanieh, who participated in the talks presided over by Fereydoun Abbasi, head
of the national Atomic Energy Organization (AEOI), declined to elaborate on the
meeting, but he stressed that local authorities confirmed their already known
position.
The government reiterated its willingness to negotiate with the IAEA and the
so-called Group 5+1 (permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany),
but he ruled out quitting the development of atomic energy with peaceful uses,
which is considered a legitimate right.
According to the IRNA, the delegations discussed mutual cooperation, and
Nackaerts expressed optimism about two good and constructive days of discussion
in Tehran.
