Description

Cuba4Kids is a public service for school librarians, parents, and young people who want to locate quality books and resources on Cuba. The list focuses on books and web resources for children and is a place for anyone to post book reivews and to respond to the reviews of others.
Cuba4Kids is a service of 4FREADOM.org, which maintains a website where children's books are reviewed by professional librarians and authors. Members of the public can add their voice to the free debate over what kinds of books related to Cuba are appropriate for use in school libraries and for family reading. While issues of politics and social problems will be discussed on the list, it will be limited to the actual books being reviewed.
We not only recommend books for inclusion, but also review books that parents and librarians should NOT buy. Children like to see pictures of other children smiling; that is a beauty of life. But we also teach our children not to lie. Therefore, books that consistently misrepresent history (as opposed to an author making a mistake here and there), are poorly researched or which simply parrot happy Castro mythologies should not see the light of elementary school collections.
Such prudent and non-politically-correct choices are NOT censorship; it is exercising wisdom and responsibility in selection. Of course, if such books are already on the shelves, the answer is, well, HERE, for where to find better books for our children when it comes to learning about our neighbor to the south.
Let FREADOM Ring and join the discussion at Cuba4Kids
