I don't think so, that's one of the spots where you are sc in two
spaces in a row without chaining. Hope this helps, KrisR

You should look at the beautiful doilies at Cylinda Matthews' Crochet Memories http://www.crochetmemories.com/ Perhaps contact her about using some of her free patterns for crochet-a-long. She even has some that
she has used for this purpose and they are already broken down into sections. I have made the Autumn Reflections doily http://www.crochetmemories.com/patterns/doilymenu6.php

yeah, i missed the twice part, oh well, this is really good for me to learn and i am starting to get the feel of threadwork.
with crocheting in yarn i just don't even think about it and let the yarn and hook do all the work but i find i'm letting the loop slide too far back on the hook and it's leaving it sloppy looking.
i frogged the wholepiece and am now starting with the sz 7 hook and paying very close attention to the loop sizes before i chain them off.

Hiya! I haven't started round seven yet, but I think I found what's
wrong, remember I don't have lucid moments very often, lol. If you
read down in your messgage, you said sc, ch3 in each of the next 4
chain 1 spaces right? Then right below that you say "in each ch 3
space there is a sc and 3 ch in each space", so are you working in
the chain 1 space as the pattern says or the ch 3 space? Might be a
typo or something else but that just jumped out at me. Good luck
and I'm sure you'll be getting some more expert advice soon, KrisR

I started crocheting and I think I was doing it wrong so I ripped it
out,I don't want to continue wrong
*(sc,ch 3)in each of the next 4 ch 1 spaces,
which means that in each chain 3 space there is a sc and 3 chains in
each space, a total of 4 loops made. however that doesn't work
because I can't do the next step
Then it says (sc,ch2) in next chain 1 space
I don't have a chain 1 space left unless I crocheted to many times
does the last space have only 2 chains instead of 3?
In all of the previous rows there are ch 2 spaces between the next
group of stitches but I don't read that there are any in this row.
I am sure that I am not making sense? Could some one please explain
please...thank you

I do not have a size 6 hook either. I
am actually using a size 7. if you have an extra ball of thread you may
want to do the first few rounds with the size 7 and see which you like better. I
would hate to see you get it complete and not like how it turns out.
good ideal with the picture, that looks like mine so far.I think that we are doing it correct. Anyway they look the same so far. I am never sure what the instructions are saying until I play some. I managed to crochet to row 6 during lunch hour. I always have to read several times what the pattern is saying. Can't wait to start againg after dinner tonight.

okay - this is an electronic frogging!
after posting pic to group I realized it still didn't lay quite flat
and decided to look at the picture again and there it was -- I skipped
doing round 8 to start the "Y" above pineapple. When in doubt --
follow directions! as my mom always said. So I do NOT make any
pattern adjustments per earlier post.

It looks fine to me -- keep in mind that especially with pineapple
patterns, there is a natural distortion that happens as the pattern is
overlarge in the earlier rounds and tightens up as the pineapple loops
are decreased through each round. I think that is why they intrigue
me -- it always looks better and better as it continues. Also, the dc
are not locked into the middle stitch of the ch5 loop but will
naturally be centered by the tension of each succeeding round,
provided tension is consistent. I'll post pic too - I'm still having a
bit of a problem with the rounds "cupping". You're doin' good, girl!

And my doily is well underway (thanks to daughter's dance studio time
last night--my time to crochet!) though I was getting rounds too tight
beginning at round 9 and later -- it was beginning to look like a
hat!! Ribbit! Ribbit! I then restarted from round 9 and added one
chain to shell & one chain between shell and pineapple which again
seemed to be too tight on round 10 - ribbit again! Round 10 now is ch
3 space in shell and chain 5 before and after pineapple.
[(dc,dc ch3,dc,dc), ch5, pineapple, ch5, (dc,dc ch3,dc,dc)]
I am working in royal blue DMC -- it has starchy/stiff feel as some
dyes seem to harden cotton thread and went to size 4 hook because of
this. At round 10 it is about 6 1/2 inches or 16cm.

abvsolutely no experience and of course i have every hook imaginable but the sz 6 recomended. i do have sz 7, 8, 9, and 10 hooks
Have you worked with thread before? Maybe knowing what experiences you have had before can give us a little more insight. Good luck and catch ya soon, KrisR

Absolutely it will help, but you might want to consider frogging (I
know, I hate that too) and trying a 6 or 7 hook. Have you worked with
thread before? Maybe knowing what experiences you have had before can

Wonderful! I haven't gotten past round one yet, stuff keeps popping
up. I'm so used to my work popping I never thought to use a different
kind of hool, lol. I work so tight I squeak. Thanks for the update

I've gotten a good start on the pineapple doily. I selected a lemon yellow
#10 thread. I tend to work very loose and have to go down 1 or 2 hook
sizes, so I'm using a #8. After switching down to the 8 I had a lot of
problems, with chains and slip stitches especially, the thread kept popping
off the hook. So I double checked the hook - yep, it's an in-line. I
really can work faster and with less re-doing of partial stitches if I use a
tapered hook, but don't have one in this size. I need to replace about 5 of
my steel hooks. But that has to wait, I just replaced the B -F aluminum
hooks. Evidently, many many years ago when I was young and starting to
purchase hooks I didn't know about the difference.
I have one very minor correction on the pattern. At the end of round 4, it
says to slip stitch in top of beginning ch 4, this should be ch 3.
Having fun! Jane

Good Morning Kris :) While it is "against the rules" to copy and paste a whole pattern to a site/email, even if it's a free pattern, it is definitely OK to share a link via email to the free pattern, and in fact most sites will say somewhere that you cannot copy and share with groups but may share the link. If it's a private designer, I always email the designer and ask permission beforehand, but that is not an absolute requirement, I just like to let them know that their work is being appreciated :)
