Description

Cró Loga, the "Enclosure of Lugh", is a list for discussing Lugh, Lleu, Lugus, and/or the Lugoves as found in iconography, mythology, folklore, and even personal devotion or experience.

Lugh was, and is, perhaps the most popular of the Celtic gods. With pan-Celtic appeal, he was worshipped throughout the Celtic world and was popular among all classes of people from kings to shoemakers to farmers. He is often described by the plural form of his name, which possibly indicates that he can be many places at once, or assist in multiple endeavours.

Lugh is intimately entwined with many aspects of public and private life. He transcends opposites, traverses boundaries, overcoming obstacles, and subjugates chaos to both make room for and to energize divine and human Order. The god presides over wind, lightning, sudden illumination, protecting the harvest, healing, skill in any endevour, success, victory, commerce, the marketplace, shoes, journeys, borders and boundaries, doorways, communication, social contracts, oaths, games, especially Fidchell/Chess, horse racing, and ball sports, especially hurling and perhaps, by historical extension, hockey.

Victorian fantasies of Lugh as a ‘sun god’ are considered off-topic. However, discussion of other deities (like Taranis, Mabon, Blodeuwedd, etc) with a relationship or connection to Lugh (by whatever name) is on topic so long as the over all thread is related to him. Likewise, in the context of comparative theology, discussions of Odin, Wodan, Mercury, Skanda, Archangel Michael, St. Patrick, St. Brendan, or any other god, hero, or saint whose stories, themes, Mysteries, or iconography have historically influenced or been influenced by Lugh are also considered on topic so long as the over all thread is related to Lugh/Lleu/Lugus/the Lugoves.
