Description

Sailors of the USS Elliot DD967 is just that. This is a group of sailors who served proudly aboard her. This e-group serves to unite and keep the Elliot's sailors connected and abreast of any social events that may be of interest. USS ELLIOT was the fifth SPRUANCE - class destroyer and the first ship in the Navy named after Lieutenant Commander Arthur J. Elliot. The USS ELLIOT was last homeported in San Diego, Calif. She completed 12 deployments and visited more than 20 ports of call. Decommissioned Dec 02, 2003, the Elliot subsequently joined the mothball fleet in Pearl Harbor, HI. Stricken from the Navy list on April 06, 2004, the Elliot was finally sunk as a target on June 24, 2005 during Talisman Saber 2005; a joint exercise of U.S. and Australian Naval Forces. She now resides eternally somewhere at the bottom of the Coral Sea. General Characteristics: Keel Laid: October 15, 1973 Launched: December 19, 1974 Christened: January 18, 1975 Commissioned: January 22, 1977 Decommissioned: December 2, 2003 Builder: Ingalls Shipbuilding, West Bank, Pascagoula, Miss. Propulsion system: four General Electric LM 2500 gas turbine engines Propellers: two Controllable Pitch Propellers Blades on each Propeller: five Length: 564,3 feet (172 meters) Beam: 55,1 feet (16.8 meters) Draft: 28,9 feet (8.8 meters) Displacement: approx. 9,200 tons full load Speed: 30+ knots Aircraft: two SH-60B Seahawk (LAMPS 3) Armament: two Mk 45 5-inch/54 caliber lightweight guns, one Mk 41 VLS for Tomahawk, ASROC and Standard missiles, Mk 46 torpedoes (two triple tube mounts), Harpoon missile launchers, one Sea Sparrow launcher, two 20mm Phalanx CIWS, one Rolling Airframe Missile (RAM) System Crew: approx. 340
