SKILLS TO OVERCOME PROBLEMS IN MARRIAGE...
Part 5 - Tell The Truth
"There are six things which the Lord hates; yes, seven which are an abomination
to Him: ... a lying tongue..."
Proverbs 6:16,17b (NAS)
With the divorce rate amongst law enforcement marriages so high, we are
endeavoring to keep these marriages strong! Let's dive right into today's skill!
You've all heard the phrase "little white lie". It's ironic how the world has
color coded the sin of lying so as to justify their actions! The Bible states
that God hates lying... it will tear away at the very fabric of your
relationship!
Lying is a means of deception that can manifest in many ways. The outright "big"
lies are obvious and probably prick your conscience. But the "littler" lies are
just as destructive to your marriage! They set the stage for distrust!
Search your heart to see if there are areas in which you have allowed lying to
slip into your relationship. Have you ever made a purchase that you didn't want
your husband to know about... one that you KNOW he would not be happy about, but
you chose to hide it from him? What about the times when he asks you if
something is bothering you, but you say 'no' just to avoid confrontation? Or
perhaps there are hidden things about your past? Or maybe there are things that
you lie about to keep from upsetting him?
All of these things are forms of deception and open the door for the devil to
work in your marriage. There is always a way to handle the truth sensitively.
Cops deal with lying 'clientele' everyday on the job... It is so important that
your husband knows that you are the one person he can trust!
Honesty breeds trust and security, dishonesty breeds doubt and insecurity. Make
a commitment to keep honesty a top priority in your marriage!
PRAYER: Father, reveal to the ladies any area in which they are being less than
honest with their husband. Help them to avoid deception and to be truthful and
sensitive when dealing with their husbands. In Jesus' name, amen.
