LOVERS FOREVER...Part 1 "Stand By Your Man"
"...And let the wife see that she respects and reverences her
husband; that she notices him, regards him, honors him, prefers him,
venerates and esteems him; and that she defers to him, praises him,
and loves and admires him exceedingly."
Ephesians 5:33b (AMP)
For the next several weeks, we are going to focus on improving and
preserving the marriage relationship. Law enforcement marriages are
failing at an astronomical rate! It is important that you do
everything you can to guarantee the success of your marriage!
One of the frustrations that I hear from some male officers is that
the wife hates the husband's LE job. One officer in particular, in
relating about his X-wife, recalled the hurtful way in which she
would respond to him whenever he needed or wanted to talk to her
about his day at work. She would tell him that she didn't want to
hear ANYTHING about it. Period.
Her response was probably out of fear and self-preservation, but it
developed a permanent wall between them over time! Ladies, it is very
important to remember that a man views his job as an extension of
himself. His job is a vital part of his identity. When a wife
criticizes or despises the job of her husband, he takes it personally
because it is as though she is despising HIM!
Your man values his ability to provide and needs affirmation from you
that what he does is important. Your officer NEEDS to hear you say
how proud you are of him, how much you appreciate what he does with
his job, and he needs your listening ear when he wants or needs to
talk about the job. If you have been unsupportive up until now, ask
God to forgive you and to open your eyes to your husband's heart so
that you can minister support to him!
If fear is an issue for you, pray and ask God to help you overcome
fear. Also command that spirit of fear to leave you alone (fear is a
spirit who works for Satan)! God called you to be a cop's wife, so
you ARE able to handle supporting his job without living in constant
fear of something happening to him!
Stand by your man by praying for him, by letting him know that you
are available day or night if he needs to talk, and by being verbally
supportive of the profession that God has called him to! Being able
to talk to YOU instead of having to talk to some lady at the office
will go a long way in binding the two of you together into an
unbreakable cord!
PRAYER: Father, I ask that you would open the hearts of these women
to their husbands! Help them to be their husband's biggest supporter
and best friend! Remind them to be good listeners and to be there
when their husband needs or wants to talk. In Jesus' name, amen.
